Well preserved shrine
Dec 2017 • Solo
A shrine with over 2100 years of history, rebuilt in the 1500s by Ieyasu is well preserved. The outside walls of the temple has exquisite carvings. Lots of tigers featured since Ieyasu was born in the year, day and hour of the tiger. . There is a carving of 3 monkeys. The 3 monkeys carving of the Nikko Toshogu Shrine features See No Evil, Speak No Evil and Hear No Evil monkeys that were meant for kids. The Chichibu monkeys are for adults and it’s said that adults have fine morals if they Listen Well, Observe Carefully, and Talk to prevent fights.

Large but quiet shrine
Apr 2013 • Family
A typical shrine smacked in the center of Chichibu town; it is hard to miss with its strategic location. It is well-maintained and quiet shrine, so go ahead, put some coins, push both your hands together and utter a prayer.
