It is less than 10 minutes walk from Bunsui Station.
Opened in 1980. Admission is 300 yen. Photography is not allowed inside the exhibition room. Exhibits include paintings and calligraphy by Ryokan, his relatives and teachers, and letters from Teishinni, Ryokan's disciple in his later years, but the number of exhibits is not large and the overall feel is modest. Although there are handmade leaflets with a list of works and Ryokan's family tree, it would be nice to have a large explanatory panel so that the exhibits can be checked together.
Inside the museum, there is also a small folklore material room, which displays photographs of the flooding of the Shinano River and the construction of the Okawazu diversion channel, folk tools, old coins, and a palanquin for a bride, but the space is small and it cannot be denied that it feels cluttered.
