Japan also had a Gold Rush!

Interesting opportunity to learn about what was once the most productive gold mine in the world (17th century).

English brochure provided, robot characters enact the mine jobs, geology information, even a gold boullion to try to lift out of a box for fun. Very interesting to know that Archimedes screw was used in Japan to remove water from the mine. Shogunate also imported wood instead of destroying the island's resources to build the mine.

Dislays and models of what a miner's life must have been like during the various eras. Try to lift a real gold bar out of the case--a few have successed. The underground temperature is approximately 10 degrees centigrade so please dress accordingly.
