The lilies were in full bloom and attracted many locals. The pond was almost fully covered in large pink flowers and the city had put up sunshades for the visitors.

We were on our way to Myoko and heard the cherry blossoms were early and the best place to see them was at Takada Park. They were just amazing. Even better than what we saw in Yokyo.

A place of recreation and relaxation for local people. It surrounds Takada castle, which is the best scenery in Joetsu. You can enjoy 4,000 cherry blossoms in April, beautiful lotuses in May, tennis, athletics, walking, jogging and everything. I especially love outdoor reading in Takada park.

Visiting in winter the park and it’s gardens were covered in snow, whilst it was great to walk around the snow covered grounds it was obvious this place would come alive in Spring. If you visiting in the region Takada is definitely worth a visit.

as usual in Japan, flawlessly clean, well decorates. has a huge playground for kids, with two tyroliens and a big spider web to climb, among tobbogans and others.

This unassuming park in the little known city of Joetsu is a hidden gem. It's claim to fame is Ohanami: cherry blossom viewing. Takada Park is regarded as one of the top 3 places in Japan to view cherry blossoms, and if you visit during...More

By mid morning we were at the park vicinity. Noticably, sakura blossoms have passed its peak. However, the wet gound and cold morning provided a clear and crisp appearance, especially with the snow covered mountains in the background. Its still very pretty despite being here...More

Where is the Joetsa-Myoko station located? (26 Replies)
I've tried unsuccessfully to determine exactly where the new Joetsa-Myoko station (part of the new Hokuriku Shinkonsen line from Tokyo to Kanazawa) is located. I'm interested in going to Takada Park but the hotels in Takada are booked out. What town is closest to where this station is located? Myoko or Joetsu or some other location? - I was hoping to see an exact location on Google Maps or some other map but can't find it. Does anyone know how you get transportation from the Joetsa-Myoko...More

Thank you for the information and suggestion. I'm having trouble with some of the train times. I'm arriving in Narita at 15:30 on the 12th (all carry on luggage). Is it possible to get through customs, and get to Tokyo in time to catch the 18:04 or 18:40 new Hokuriku Shinkansen line to Joetsu-Myoko station near Takada Park that day? I'm hoping to catch the last couple of hours of the lighted cherry festival (lighted till 23:00). I need to leave early the next morning on the first train to...More

Takada Park Cherry Blossom Festival (9 Replies)
Can any one confirm how late the trees are lighted each night during the Takada Park Cherry Blossom Festival? I thought it was until 23:00 but saw something today that indicated it may end at 20:00 or 21:00. I've tried to translate the Japanese brochures but just can't find anything to confirm. Thanks.

Kimono Rental in the Joetsu/Myoko area? (3 Replies)
Hello everyone, I'll be staying in Myoko (Niigata) to catch the cherry blossoms at Takada Park and I would like to rent some pretty kimono or yukata but so far my Google searches has failed me. I'm assuming it's probably because they don't show up in English searches so I was hoping somebody here with more Japanese knowledge than I do would know of a local Kimono Shop? Ideally somewhere not too far from Takada as I'm only staying there for one night. Or if I were to bring my own...More

Hello there, Aw that's a shame, I wanted to wear a kimono for Hanami at Takada Castle because by the time I arrive in Japan, I'll miss the full blossom week in Tokyo already. But thank you for your help :)
