I have included a review for Akakura Onsen that included Akakan (or as everyone calls It Kanko). Awesome, very enjoyable. Great runs, especially the long run down to gondola past the red hotel.

Being strictly groomed-run skiers, we found this a great place to ski in the Myoko area. Good lifts and mostly uncrowded slopes with no lift lines at all during the week and only a very short wait even on weekends.

Myoko had amazing powder. There are some incredible areas to ski-tour off of the top-notch and really good off piste if you are avalanche aware and follow safe practices. We skied about a week here and discovered new runs every day

The next resort near to our accommodation that looked okay. Gondola and a number of hooded chairlifts (again putting Hakuba to shame). A lot more beginners on the runs but not too many if you ski to the runs to the right side of Akakura...More

This is the other half of a two ski area access. You can get a day pass for either area, or a combined pass for both. Do the combined.

Lots of varied runs and decent side country if you're willing to duck ropes and go out of bounds. Watch for ski patrol and avoid getting stuck in the valleys between ridges, as some have running water and require a hike to get out. Well...More

This place offers a variety of terrain and some good long runs in pretty area. Very Japanese. Great for those with intermediate skills or better. The upper runs might be a challenge for beginners with no alternatives down! Connections to Akakura Onsen (joint pass) are...More

Loved skiing on this mountain. Great covered quad chairs and a gondola take you to the top. Tree skiing is great and the snow was perfect. Right in the heart of Myoko resort village. Would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Catering for all levels of skier, this place would be the best to visit more times then once.Has ample areas to eat on the hill as well as stopping in town.Rental shop has all you need at the base of the gondola.
