Very nice and large park a few kilometers from downtown Matsumoto. Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains from the hilltops. Excellent and large playground for kids, perfect spot for the kid to burn off some serious energy. If they had a coffee place up there it would be nothing short of perfect.

We took the train to Hotaka station and then hired e-bikes (1200Y for 2px for 3 hours) and cycled to the Wasabi farm then to the park. It took us about 40 mins from the Wasabi park. We weren't sure what to expect but this place is wonderful! It's a beautifully thought out and resourced park that has a lot to offer. The buildings house a wrap around aquarium with local aquatic life, there are activities on offer for the kids, a viewing room with short films, a 3D topography of the area and lots of information (mostly in Japanese however). A lot of thought has been put into the grounds which include gardens, water features, play areas and exhibitions. Even in early spring where everything is a bit dreary, this place is interesting. THere are also some japanese monkeys around which appear to be very peaceful and wary of people. We would love to come back here again in Summer and see everything at it's most blooming!

Great illumination show in winter. We played at the Alps Nat'l Gov't Park in Omachi first, then saw the lights here.

This is an enchanting place to visit over the Christmas period. There is a wonderful outdoor light show that you can walk around, and taiko performance on New Year's Eve by local Kyogaku team who play with extraordinary energy. The exhibition centre and park also lovely. Well worth a visit

The staff is wonderful and helpful! The light display is very nice and the exhibits at the vistor's center are very good. Lots of wild monkeys and asiatic black bears even!

The simulated creek and fish viewing is worth the visit!
