I cycled up to Yabitsu Pass the long way from Sagamihara, so I guess I'm rating the whole experience, which was one my best in Japan to date.
I started out early on a Saturday morning in October from Tsukui-Ko, (NR413 and PR64) and crossed Miyagase lake, before heading up the Yabitsu Pass road (PR70). Beautiful. Fir trees, mountains and clear bubbling streams. Had to share the road occasionally with motorcycles and cars, which - given that the road is narrow and in some places wet - got a little hairy. But, fundamentally, the pleasure of being out of Tokyo and in the great outdoors was overwhelmingly worth it.
The 80km round trip took me just over 3 and a half hours with stops for photos and map checks. The ride back down from Yabitsu Pass to Tsukui-Ko was exhilarating and absolutely justified the hard work in getting up there.
I'd strongly recommend this as a place to do a day's cycling or walking.
