Stopped here to buy the free pass for a trip to Hakone. Staff were helpful and spoke reasonable English. Tried to pay with credit card but, as we often found, they didn't understand chip and pin so we had to pay cash. They were very keen to give us information on Hakone and the circular route but we almost came a cropper at the first hurdle as the platforms at the station are staggered. We were following signs to the platform (11 I think) for Hakone Yumoto, saw a train that seemed to be right and jumped on. After a while one set of doors closed and then we didn't set off on time. On checking I discovered we were on the wrong platform and we jumped off before we left on a mystery tour so no harm done. But do be wary.

I took my mother for her first overseas trip to Odawara. It’s a must stop from Tokyo if you want a view on Mount Fuji. This info centre is conveniently located in the train station as you arrive. However nothing can make it for the arrogant attitude of their young staff members: blasé, pretentious (they know the area, you don’t and they’ll make sure you feel that way)! I didn’t come to visit Japan to be made to feel small when I ask questions about a complex loop in the mountains.... I gave them that feedback and I think the place would do so much better if the staff tried to be helpful and lost the unhelpful attitude.

The tourist staff here were extremely helpful and trying very hard to assist us. We were given several brochures and maps in English which were very helpful. The staff spoke English well enough for us to understand exactly what we needed!

This Tourist Information counter is in the train station building, across the hall from the train information counter. The staff were extremely friendly, spoke English well and gave us all the information we required.
