箱根の塔の沢付近の早川から取水し、途中幾つかの水路用のトンネルを抜け、小田原市の荻窪のめだかの学校付近に通じている灌漑用の用水路で、江戸時代の1802年完成とのことです。その後、箱根登山鉄道用の水力発電所用の導水路としても使用されています。この用水路周辺は、小田原市推奨のハイキングコースになっています。

江戸時代の土木技術には驚かされました。荻窪を流れる用水路の水が、なんと山の向こう側の早川から、トンネルを掘って水を引いているとは。。。江戸時代当時、水不足で農業に適さなかった荻窪のエリアを、この用水路を引くことで豊かにしたそうです。

小田原税務署の近くにある「めだかの学校」のすぐそばにある用水路です。調べてみたところ、箱根湯本付近の早川から取水しているとのことで、かなりの距離に驚きました。

風祭のしだれ桜を見に行った時に、近くに小田原用水の案内板があったように記憶しています。もしかしてこの用水路は、荻窪のメダカの学校まで繋がっている？！途中に山がありますよね？主人に聞いてみたら、山はトンネルの水路で抜けているそうです。江戸時代に作られたそうですが、、、なんかすごいです。
