There are trees everywhere and hawks flying overhead. The “eno” pass gives you access to the escalators up the hill, caves and viewing platform and is well worth the money.Visited November 2023Traveled soloWritten November 6, 2023
- Josh DNew York City, New York895 contributionsMy first Asian review!!I happen to be in Tokyo right now living my ramen life fantasies!! I was bored out of my mind for 15 hours going from Newark NJ to Tokyo on the plane yesterday but I went out to live life today!! I was with some dudes from Temple Japan and we were looking at the sights!! I went inside a cave and saw the ocean and a crazy view of Mt Fuji!! I am also eating some Japanese fried chicken in a little while and will continue living my ramen life!!Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten January 9, 2024

- Couttsy7160 contributionsEnoshima in SpringFirst trip to Enoshima island. We took the electric train and got off a stop earlier than we needed to, to walk along the seafront. Then it was on the walkway bridge over to the island. Now there is no getting away with this, there are thousands of people doing exactly the same thing as you. And like any tourist hotspot in Japan, unless you are getting up at sunrise, there are going to be hoards of people. I was mentally prepared but my current husband moaned like I’d conjured up these peeps just to annoy him. We walked up the first part on the Main Street and there are shops and restaurants either side. Then we decided to take the escalators all the way to the top-300 yen each-I’d definitely recommend doing this as you’re going to have to walk down anyway so you don’t miss out on anything. Husband and teenager said they would have preferred to jog up. At the top there is a really beautiful garden with a couple of cafes, a shop and if you have bought tickets you can climb up the sea candle. Plenty of shrines and temples to see on the way down. Almost every food place only serves seafood, so bare that in mind if you want to eat on the island. I did see one pizza restaurant. I enjoyed enoshima island and my expectations were met. I will come back for another look when moaning Minnie has gone back to work..😜Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 3, 2024
- Beth Anne PKenya75 contributionsMagical placeThis was my favorite day in Japan. My son recommended I go and I'm so glad I did. Everything from the vintage tram ride, to the morning spent hiking up and down the narrow streets, to the visit to the various shrines (including the one in the sea cave), to the brief snack at the tea house, to the 90 minutes just sitting on the rocks watching the Pacific fill tide pools with Fuji in the background...all of it was just magical. Could have stayed for days, truly. I didn't want to leave. There are a lot of tourists there - but mainly Japanese tourists coming for a day out to visit the shrines and temple and to eat octopus crackers (get one! they are good!). Easy to reach the island from Tokyo and you can combine with a trip in the afternoon to Hase or Kamakura. Do get there early (was there by 9:00 which gave me time to walk all over the island and leave after lunch just when it started to get crowded). Its a long day, but wonderful. I think it would have been equally good in the rain, but was there on a gorgeous sunny day. Walking back across the causeway, you can spend a bit of time on the beach with your feet in the Pacific.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 16, 2024
- Mellie2013Port Moody, Canada2,944 contributionsPerfect day trip with kids!Great area with lots to offer. Restaurants, shopping, shrines, caves and escalators to save your legs! A Sea Candle tower for views of the beautiful Sagami Bay We enjoyed a late Sunday afternoon visit to Enoshima Island. Arrived via the Odakyu train network, which was include in our 3 day Hakone/Kamakura Pass. We did a day trip from Tokyo, it was quite easy and enjoyable. 👏🏻 Enoshima Island was an easy jaunt from Fuijisawa to Katase-Enoshima Station. We walked from the station out across the bridge and to the main street of the Island. At 3pm on this warm and sunny day, there were lots of sightseers. A popular spot for couples and families to watch the setting sun. We utilized the escalators to reach the top of the island. They really saved our legs as we had already completed a half-day in Kamakura!! We didn't have enough time to enjoy the beaches or aquarium but it would be very easy to fill a whole day with activities in this area. Especially with children!! Would we recommend a trip to Enoshima Island? YES!! We will return and spend more time enjoying the Island and Kamakura in the future.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 24, 2024
- TheOnlyRealFred22 contributionsOne of the best day trips from TokyoGoing to Enoshima Island was honestly one of the best experiences I had on my trip to Japan last year. The island is quite small but especially beautiful at the shore. It's a perfect spot to take pictures of mount Fuji if you don't want to travel too far away from Tokyo. Getting to Enoshima is especially nice since you get to ride the Enoden, the small train that basically drives next to the sea. Highly recommend going there if you want to take a day trip away from the bustling city.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten June 19, 2024
- gsgman777Columbia, Illinois799 contributionsDefintely a great day trip from TokyoIt was our last day in Japan and we took a day trip to Kamakura and then visited Enoshima Island. As others on here have said, it is a very magical place. It's a 10 minute walk across the bridge to this island and it just has a good feel to it. I wish our plans that day would have allowed for more time on the island.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 25, 2024

I did a guided live-streamed tour of Enoshima Island with Eriko from Heygo. She divided her tours into two sections each about 50 mins long with a 45 mins interval. She is doing another tour of this island later to show us the lights. She showed us the unique Enoshima Station facade on the mainland. Then we walked across the short causeway along the pedestrian bridge. After walking past a green Torii Gate, the narrow alley has shops on both sides. There are three shrines altogether at different levels. There are escalators up but it does not go down. We went up Enoshima Sea Candle to have a panoramic view of the island and the Pacific Ocean. It is a lovely island worth a visit.

Easily done in a day if you’re based in Tokyo. Enoshima Island is fun and easy to get to on the Odakyu Line/Romance Car.
The island sports a series of interesting shrines that are nestled in the serene beauty of the wooded island.
There is a lot of walking involved on this island, though you can opt to take an escalator to the top shrine on the island for a few (¥370). Regardless, expect to walk. A lot.

Good walking tour on the island for beautiful scenery. Enjoyed the tempura or fried seafood lunch in the restaurant on the island. Disappointed not getting a very clear view of Mount Fuji Top from the seaside.

I went in the Christmas/new year and it was a sea of people, but the decoration was nice. Not speaking of time, they have a lot of small shops while you climb the island, an ice cream shaped lighthouse, temples and other interesting places. Sadly I was not able to see the island fully, no time.

Was looking for lunch on the way to Fujigawaguchiko and we hit this town. A seaside area with much to see and eat. A day trip for those from Tokyo seems viable but I was driving so can’t comment much on the train time. Food choices aplenty and much to shop with a Shrine to visit.

How can I get to Enoshima Island from Hiratsuka? I am visiting Japan in January. Thank you!
Written December 29, 2016
There are three ways to get there. 1. From Jr. Hiratsuka train station, take local Tokaido line train that heads Tokyo/Yokohama, and get off at Fujisawa station. And then, transfer to Enoden train that heads to Kamakura, then get off at Enoshima station. There will be 10 - 15 min walk to Enoshima island from this station. But Enoden is very popular to tourist and it runs every 10-15min. 2.From Jr. Hiratsuka station, take Tokaido line that heads Tokyo/Yokohama, then get off at Fujisawa station. Then go to South exit and take local bus that goes Enoshima island. Bus run every 30 min or so, and this bus takes you right in front of the island. View from bus also fun. 3. From Jr. Hiratsuka train station, take local Tokaido line train that heads Tokyo/Yokohama, and get off at Fujisawa station. And then, transfer to Odakyu train that heads to Enoshima, then get off at Enoshima station. There will be 10 - 15 min walk to Enoshima island from this station. Taking Enoden might be most popular way, but if you want cut back waking, using bus is good. Enjoy.

Tattoos are generally frowned upon in Japan. However, since it is a beach and not a private spa, there will be no one to deny you entry. If you are worried, try to be discreet about it.
