Walking along charming Ono river lined with willow trees and above all a number of Edo era houses I came across the former residence of the famous Edo era cartographer who drew the first complete map of Japan. The house offers a glimps of a traditional Japanese residence.

This is an old house right on the canal - you can hardly miss it - and very well kept. If you go there on a Tuesday you will probably be the only ones there as the rest of the town, including restaurants, is closed. There was no charge.

I really recommend this place for foreign traveler. It is traditional Japanese architecture as home for rich citizen, built in 18th century. Ino Tadataka who made the quite detail map of Japan in early 19th Century, built it and lived there. Free to enter, you can feel the atmosphere of Edo period! Worth visit.…
