This museum focuses on the lanterns that are used in local festivals. These lanterns are huge and must be carried by a large group of strong people. Their decorations are elaborate and colorful. The museum also gives perspective on the festival and illustrates a couple...More

We came for the weekly free Taiko drumming performance, in which masked characters beat different rhythms on the one drum - fantastic! After the crowd had left we stayed behind for a personal tour of the 'giraffe garage' where the lantern floats (Kiriko') are kept...More

You will learn history and culture of Wajima here. We were not planning on not visiting here but was recommended by the Ryokan we stayed. We were glad we went there. It is a must-see place.

After going to this small museum which displays the lantern floats I want to go back for the matsuri (festival) in August. Great video of people having a wild time.

Took a full day bus trip from Kanazawa. This is the best part of the trip. It was an amazing sight to see such huge Kiriko side by side and the lighting effect was great. Unfortunately the explaination is all in Japanese. But the video...More

This was part of our Noto tour package. Though the museum was a little bit small, the kiriko/festival lanterns inside were amazing. It houses many lanterns of different sizes which are used in festivals. However the giant lanterns (around 3-4 story high) just stays inside...More

Kiriko museum houses "kiriko lanterns"...the huge paper lanterns used in summer festivals in different parts of Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa. This museum was relocated to a new site closer to Wajima' morning market, and has a very different look from the previous place which was...More

The Kiriko Lantern Museum has relocated to Wajima's growing Marine Town development. The new building has been superbly designed to showcase the beautiful lantern floats. I clearly remember my reaction when I walked into the exhibition hall - wow! It is one of the best...More

This is a tiny museum, but packed with interesting displays if you're interested in the Matsuri culture of Japan. The Kiriko are just massive. I'd like to return for one of the summer festivals and see them in action.
