Great Place
Sep 2020
Tojinbo Cliffs were amazing. You can walk around on the cliffs themselves and there are some great places for pictures. There are also some nice walking paths so you can get a little exercise while enjoying the view.

Scenic cliffs
Nov 2019 • Couples
The scenic cliffs made by wave erosion stretch for about one kilometer. An awesome creation of raging waves in the Japan Sea. As we have the JR rail pass, we decided to visit it when we were in Nagoya. We took the Shirasagi limited express from platform 4 at Nagoya station and arrived at Fukui after two hours. Then we went up the stairs and out of Fukui station to bus stop 2. Facing bus stop 2 is a counter ticket where. we bought the Tojinbo pass 2 day costing 1200 yen to get us to Tojinbo cliffs. This pass is much more cheaper than if you pay the fare according to the destination you disembark from the Keifuku bus. If you wish to stay overnight , this pass is very worthwhile as you can get to other designated scenic spots. After appreciating the scenic cliffs, you can take a walk among the tall green trees. From Tojinbo cliffs , you can get to Oshima island. Be mindful of the bus time table, as the bus takes almost an hour to get back to pick you up from where you drop.

Unusual seaside resort
May 2019 • Couples
Came on the Echizen line train from Fukui followed
by a short bus journey (every 30 minutes).

The small seaside town was packed with Japanese
visitors. The many small restaurants and ice cream
sellers were doing a roaring trade. I have never seen
quite so many different ice cream flavours, which even
included squid ink! I played safe and chose sweet
chestnut, which was very pleasant.

After the long walk between the shops and restaurants,
we came to the cliffs and the sea. There were boat rides
at 1400 yen per person, but it entailed a long climb down
to the boarding point and an even more tiring climb back
up, so we gave it a miss.

The rock formations are very interesting and the views are
worth seeing. Ideal for younger, more agile visitors, who
managed to get all the way down to sea level.

A pleasant day out.

Amazing Coastal Cliff
Jun 2019 • Friends
We spent about one hour at Tojinbo. We went there during weekday and was not crowded. The coastal cliff was amazing but if driving all the way for 2.5 hours from Lake Biwa to Tojinbo, the trip may not be worthwhile.

I prefer the photos!
Sep 2018 • Couples
As part of our tour we stopped there. Apart a grand view over the sea of Japan and, yes with interesting escarpments on the coast I did not really see anything I would have called cliff. I'm not sure what I expected, perhaps my bad but that what it was for me. I also left my prescription multifocal spectacle there that must have fallen off my head as I don't really like wearing them! But I don't blame the 'cliffs for this even if they could be some association with my like of appreciation of the place. Just the same it was a pleasant stop and we enjoy the little cafe on the site.
PS:
September 2017 not on the dropdown list?
And under "what sort of visit was this? Why "Group tour" "Family Group" are not one of the categories?

Amazing place and less crowded
Apr 2019 • Couples
This is a world wonder and I am surprised that the tour buses have not found their way here. This place is probably Japan’s best kept secret for the locals to enjoy and not open to too much foreign tourists. If you get a chance, do come for a day trip and enjoy the Sea of Japan, the beautiful cliffs, and the sea breeze. The picture below speaks wonders of this place.

Magnificent ocean
Apr 2019 • Couples
It’s so beautiful here, the ocean is magnificent, you can’t get an ugly photo shot here. Every angle is stunning!! The breeze is cooling but not strong so it’s lovely to walk and explore.

Japan's Giant Causeway
Feb 2019 • Solo
There are frequent limited express and local trains between Fukui and Awaraonsen. Limited express takes 10 minutes. The 45 minutes bus ride between Awaraonsen station and Tojinbo runs every half hourly on weekends & public holidays and every hourly on weekdays.

I find the rock columns at Tojinbo were not as defined hexagonal shaped as those in Northern Ireland's Giant Causeway. However, being able to stand on the edge of those columnal cliffs, the views were so spectacular. Would have been nice to admire those columns of rock from the tour boat but the tour was not available due to the weather.

It was OK
Feb 2019 • Couples
We went around 4:30 PM in an extremely windy day. Spent probably 30 minutes by the cliff. If you don’t stay nearby, or don’t have time to spare, skip it. The view is nice but not as nice as 2 hours bus ride from the Awara Onsen Station.

But, the BBQ restaurant on the other side of the Awara Onsen Station Japan (なかや焼肉店) was fantastic!

Beautiful cliff on the Sea of Japan
Jan 2018 • Friends
It’s one of our main itinerary for day trip to Fukui from Osaka, yes it’s quite far as it took about 2 hours for one way by Shinkansen and connected to the local train and bus, but it’s all worth it for the breathtaking view. This area is famous with the echizen crab that is available mostly in winter. The place was pretty crowded with local tourists when we went there in December 2015. Fukui also has dinasour museum so its worth to stop by if you’re around the area.
