We were literally the only visitors to the castle when we went! The museum hosts a great collection of samurai armour and has a nice view over the surrounding countryside.

昨日三つのお城を訪ねた。お城中毒、僕!このアルバムは越前国の勝山城。天守が一番高い城だ。 Another day, another castle. Yesterday I visited three castles. Mine is not a stable mind. This album is Echizen-Katsuyama Castle. Tada-san was a rich and successful businessman from Katsuyama. Wanting to give back to the community which had given so much to him, he funded the building of the castle, a concrete replica, which serves as a museum. The five-tiered, six-storied flatland castle has to it a fantastical flourish with dragon shapes sculpted upon its stone base. The interior is huge, and exhibitions do not want for space. Much space is given over to vacant seating areas, business meetings or seminars could probably be held here if ever the need arose.

Katsuyama castle, constructed in 1992, is the tallest in Japan. It is not very historic compared to other castles. The castle grounds is freely accessible, but you pay to go inside. There is also a small museum of samurai armor/weapons, like in Matsumoto. The castle is beautifully situated among rice paddies, though. Accessible by private bus, not too far from Hakusan-Hisenji shrine (15 minute walk)

by the time I reach this place is already late and the castle is already close. Taking a scroll along the lake by the castle when during night fall is a total new experience. With lighting shinning on the castle and the reflection of the castle on the lake, please do not miss the opportunity for a nice photo to add on to your travel album
