The best thing about this for us was the hike up the hill and the view from the top of the village. It's worth going but just don't expect too much history or actual castle.

Beautiful rural town with mountains as the surrounding backdrop. The walk up to the ruins is through beautiful cypress forest, just a km or so out of town.

Iwamura Castle, though it had been ruined long time ago, is said to be one of the three most beautiful mountain castles in Japan. Take a ride on local Akechi Line from Ena Station. This train ride itself is worth trying.
