It is becoming my family's ritual to pay homage to Yaizu Fish Market for a shopping binge for the new year. It is also good place for tourists to shop for souvenirs. It also has Shizuoka's top favorite souvenirs such as leafed tea, and Abekawa rice cakes. On Wednesday, half area of the center is closed.

A nice place to have sashimi rice bowl and to buy snacks. They have very good small dried fish and shrimp chips. Excellent to bring some back to your home and share these with your friends.

Had a good time, easy to choose stuff even if you speak no Japanese. Stall holders generally very friendly and helpful. Had a good meal inside at the corner sushi place (pictured) as well.

When in Yaizu Shizouka, one shouldn’t miss the Sakana Fish Center. Enter through the other end where the tour busses aren’t parked to score a better deal.
Living in Tokyo where the price of seafood is mostly jacked up, I was awed by how very affordable the fish are! They’re almost three times less the price from the capital.

Since Yaizu is near a fishing port, all of the fish are freshyly caught so it's really a good deal!

Gorgeous Fish market with loads of variety. really fresh and yummy. One can even choose to eat some ala minute fresh sushi and sashimi in small restaurant in the market even, beware if on weekend, its really crowded. Try visit early to see the varieties.

We were amazed with the variety of fresh seafoods in this center like the spider crabs, large oysters, fishes, large scallop, etc etc, not forgetting some dry stuff. We bought dried scallop and some souvenir back. We had yummy sushi next door.

If you are a market lover, you will have so much fun visiting Yaizu Sakana Center. You can find all sort of local food products-fresh sea food, Shizuoka grown green tea, citrus fruits, etc. You would be amazed to see the variety and abundance. I bought some fresh seaweed (the vendor lady gave me a discount!), local green tea (the shopkeeper let me sample before my purchase) and unique green tea flavored jelly (Japanese call this yokan, a type of sweets). Actually there are a lot more I wanted to get! It was also a great fun to walk around the narrow passage ways to look for a restaurant to have lunch. We stopped at a tiny sushi place, where we needed to share a table with another party. Luck us, though. As soon as we sat down the huge line formed. The Kaisen donburi (1500 yen) we ordered had a lot of fresh sashimi on top of sushi rice. The miso soup that came along was also very delicious! If you happen to be in the neighborhood, you definitely need to stop by here!

Yaizu has been famous with No.1 fish port of the Orient. Therefore, there are a lot of fish dealers in the city. Yaizu Sakana Center is a complex of such fish dealers.
Now the place is famous as a sightseeing spot for tourists from domestic Japan as well as other countries. However, we who are living in neighbor city visit there for purchasing seasonal gifts because fish near the fish port are very fresh.
Among many stores, we can find Sushi stands who offer variety of Sushi at reasonable prices.
Other than Sushi, you may enjoy sea foods bowls and other snacks. Local souvenir shops are also there.
My recommendable stores are "Kawanao" who sells smoked bonitos and "Marumata" who offers fried or boiled fish paste.
You should visit if you would go around this area.

A large tourist market. It was a holiday so the main parking lot was full. There was a parking lot nearby so I parked there.
The area is divided and it's easy to get lost, so it might be a good idea to check the map first to avoid getting lost.
There are a variety of frozen crabs and dried fish, so it's a lot of fun to shop there. Most places accept cash or PayPay.
