For people interested in history, this temple and its adjacent museum is well worth a visit. The gardens are lovely and the family who runs it is both very well-versed in the history and also is very kind to visitors.

Small peaceful temple in a peaceful small town. Ryosenji temple is pretty much at the start of the famed Perry Road. It was at this temple that the Treaty of Shimoda was signed between US and Japan by Commodore Perry.

If you're interested in Matthew Perry and the opening of Japan in the 19th century this is good place to visit. Their little museum holds some interesting art and artifacts, and if you pray at the temple you'll allegedly have enhanced success in your career....More

Fantastic little spot with a garden of white and lilla flowers. Flowers bloom in mid to late May. Here commodore Perry signed the Shimoda treaty. Don't miss the vertical garden and the little shrine on the left when you come in
