I went in low season so I hadenough time to visit, understand, see, learn.. I found it quite interesting, even fascinating. Since the entrace, the boat ride, the island itself and the different temples and shrines, is quite an experience. Even that there are many signs in english I will strongly recommend to go with a Chinese speaking partner, if... More

It was a very nice temple on Meizhou Island. Took the ferry to Island and you may get a golf car for a short drive to the temple. There were tones of people while we visited during CNY. Unbelievable crowd. Highly suggest visiting it during non-peak season...

I am a temple person. I write about temples and have personally visited a lot of Mazu/Tin Hau temples. This is the biggest and best that I have seen. The temple has two halves. The old ancestral part is atmospheric and dark. It is the best section as you can get a real feel for traditional Mazu worship there. The... More

This local temple is dedicated to the goddess of the sea. Do like the locals, and walk up from the ferry landing. It's not very far, and the walk is pleasant enough. A good half-day distraction if time permits.

The ferry crossing to the island is not a pleasant ride unless you're able to take the faster boat. Lots of temples within the grounds to visit, and additional admission to see the statue of Mazu (half price for foreign passport holders).

As with most other temples and sights in china, in order to fully appreciate the beauty and history, will need to do some research beforehand Mazu is a famous goddess in chinese history and most chinese educated students would be somewhat familiar with her. Need a ferry to get to this island ... crowded and may see livestock beside you... More
