Sunset in Zia

3 reviews
Charming Zia in the southernmost slope, whose superb location makes it the perfect spot for viewing spectacular sunsets and gazing at the nearby islands of Kalymnos and Pserimos as well as the Turkish coast in the distance.

During the summer the settlement of Zia is bursting with activity from the countless visitors who come to taste local delicacies served in charming traditional taverns, to purchase unique local products and souvenirs and to stroll through the cobblestone alleyways all the way up to its crystal-clear fresh water springs, the most well-known of which is Kefalovrisi.

My daughter (who can ride) booked us a one hour beach ride here and I was very nervous having hardly been on a horse before. The stables are amazing and the horses beautiful. We were taken out by Maria who was lovely. It was a wonderful way to see the salt lake and flamingos and I felt very safe with her. I even managed a few trots and my daughter had a canter in the dunes. Thoroughly recommend

Me and my partner , who is experienced rode together today, I wasn’t confident and struggled at first , it was my fault not the horse, however yanis was with me all the way, he made me go on and feel confident with patience and skill, the horses are in great shape and are all looked after. I have booked again to gain confidence on a horse , in the hands of a really good good horseman, yanis . If you want to ride a horse on the beach with the sun and the sea, this is your place . Thank you yanis and family .

Salt Lake Stables is just the loveliest place. Run by Yannis, Gina and their sons, a true horsey family. They are welcoming, extremely knowledgable and safe while also providing a truly relaxed atmosphere, which is the perfect environment to be in for riding. The horses are all perfectly looked after and they match each rider carefully with the right horse. Everything, really everything, is provided. You can basically arrive in a bikini and they provide you with jodhpurs, socks, boots, chaps, bumbags (to carry phone, etc), lockers, helmets, etc. They are located right by the beach and the Salt Lake and the rides are a dream. You can canter and gallop along the beach and in the dunes (for experienced riders) but you can also just enjoy a leisurely walk on the beach (for beginners or anyone who has never ridden before). There are many rides to choose from and all well worth the price, which is very reasonable. I've ridden with them about 10 times in August/September (mostly sunset rides but also swimming trip) and would ride there everyday if i could. Everything about the experience and this family is so beautiful. I cannot recommend Salt Lake Stables enough and will be back next season without a doubt!

Having never been on a horse I didn’t know what to expect. We did a 1 hour sunset ride. The price seemed fair enough so me and my Mrs went. We felt the group was too big, horses would nearly run into eachother which did make us laugh at first but then got a little worrying later on, we both had no experience on horses, so as the hour wore on we realised how physical it can be and at times were worried we were going to fall off. It’s not as easy as it looks and a few days on my back is in pieces. I won’t go on a horse ever again, but through no fault of this companies, it just isn’t for me. They picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off, have a quick tuition on how to ride the horse and offered drinks when we returned.
