We did a Kalaw to Inle Lake trek (3 days, 2 nights) with Eagle Trekking and we had an amazing experience. We were only 4 people which was great as we saw other groups passing with 10 and more participants. Alex (owner) helped us prepare for the trek by being very responsive. We slept in home stays which opened our eyes to real Myanmar way of life. Ask for Yeli as your trek guide. He is not only a very knowledgeable guide, but is also an excellent cook, artist, magician and entertainer. He made our trek very special and we will never forget it!

We did a 3D2N trek with Eagle Trekking, averaging about 20km a day.
Though we were in a rather large group (~16 people), Alex and his team were able to keep up with the logistical demands well. He kindly accommodated all our requests, such as having minimally 2 guides, and having sufficient foods throughout the journey.
We'd also like to thank both of our guides, Aye Min and Mu Soe, who were completely professional throughout the duration of the trek, spoke good English, and were able to adapt to the challenges that we encountered.

We went for a one day trip around Kalaw and were amazed by the beauty of the scenery. In addition we learned a lot from our guide Robin about wildlife, local people, agriculture etc. He has about 30 years of experiences and we felt so lucky to have him as our guide. Next time we would like to do two day trip to Inle. We highly recommend Eagle Trekking for all the adventure seekers out there :)

We did the 2 day hike from Kalaw to Inle Lake early feb 2020, and had a great time. Musoe was our amazing guide. He speaks perfect English, is very knowledgeable about the area, engages and I eager to learn about his clients backgrounds. He’s also super sweet, taking really good care of me after I sprained my ankle on the first day.

We stayed at a very cosy (albeit basic) homestay along the way, run by a super enthousiast and friendly guy whose name we sadly can’t remember. We got treated like kings, and we were served a delicious and abundant meal.

Thanks Alex and Musoe for organising this incredible trip!

Did a 1-day 25KM solo hike West of Kalaw with the excellent guidance of Mr. Robin. Never have I seen a guide that manages such speeds over the long and hilly distance on ... slippers ! Simply amazed.

Requested a tour without any souvenir stops and mostly nature focused, and thats exactly what I got. Fabulous views and we identified pretty much every Flora on our way up.

The guide was extremely knowledgable, had good connection with all people we encountered (really, he was welcomed as a Kalaw celebrity) which gave exclusive and pressureless sights into the local life. English was perfect.

Will definitely be back & thanks.

We did a half day walkabout around the terrains of Kalaw, and were warmly greeted by Alex (Owner) and Nicolas (Trek Guide).

This is not just a paid service but it was very heart warming to realize their passion to educate tourists and locals alike on matters regarding the upkeep of their beautiful heritage in parallel to the modernization phenomenon.

We will truly revisit this beautiful city again.

Thank you kindly and wish you all the best!

We are grateful for Eagle Trekking and Alex for the great experience and very well organized tour to Inle.

The tour took two days and this was enough to get acquainted with the local people's life and to see wonderful landscape. Thanks for our great guide Simon (Noble Sai), who lead us through the unpassed paths, cooked delicious meals and helped us to know more about Myanmar and its people. Highly recommended! :)

I met Alex in Kalaw in January 2023 while I was looking for a trekking guide, and he was recommended to me. Although I did not have a guided tour with Alex since he was already booked by other clients, I can only say favorable things about him. He gave me a lot of great information and ideas about what to do in Kalaw, and I rented a mountain bike from him, which was in great condition and allowed me to explore the nearby area. Furthermore, he connected me to his brother Soe Paing from "Green Discovery", who then became my guide for a whole day trekking tour, which was a great experience. Both of them are very friendly, knowledgeable and great company. If you are looking for guides in Kalaw, choose Alex or Soe Paing and you will not regret it. Thank you very much!

This is review of the Eagle trekking agency (Alex) and it's services for 3 day/2 night Kalaw-Inle Lake trekking.

In short:
Good guide is everything!
Either be sure you've got a good (English speaking) guide or go by yourself with maps.me, have fun and save $40.

Prior to our trekking trip we researched everything we could find about different agencies and alomost all-positive reviews of guides of Eagle trekking seemed to us as a guarantee that we will have a decent guide. Unfortunately that was not the case.

Eagle trekking charges you $60 for 4 persons ($50 for 6) almost DOUBLE THE PRICE of other agencies.

Our guide (Aung Aung) could BARELY SPEAK a few words of POOR ENGLISH. He was very kind and good hearted, but the language barrier was too big. We explicitly asked Alex (owner) if the guide speaks good English and he lied to us in the face.

The ROUTE IS THE SAME as all the other mainstream agencies. We were basically walking on main roads between the villages 80% of the time which is not trekking.

Lunch stops were organized in the same places as all the other agencies, with as many as 60-70 people at one place at a time.

Lunch meals were oily noodles. Worst eats by far during our 4-week trip.

Dinners were tasty but very basic - steamed rice with steamed vegetables and bits of chicken (both nights) is Myanmar's food as it is everyone's.

In all, meals and accomodation you get from the agency on this 3 day trek are worth $15-20 max. Spending extra $40 for a guide which speaks no English and goes on main roads with hoardes of other groups is just too much.

We learned more about Versailles from a lovely French couple we traveled with than we learned about tribes, villages and people on our way to Inle.

Definitely not worth any extra money compared to other similar agencies. Don't expect any added value.

Thank you very much for you remind me to edit my team. The food : You said only noddle soup in trekking 3 day 2 night its is impossible because Myanmar is all the local people are eat mainly RICE. The Trails : My trekking is not only walking , to see the day life of people and local life , Not focus the trails. ( can be same trails with others or can be different its doesn't matter). Have you been there old trail or new trail of my region? When you come to Myanmar what do you see on the plane many people??? Can not by public only ticket for you, same we can meet some people on the trekking trails, The guide scale : Aung Aung can speak much better than you because he had been trekking many years ago and he finish university in Myanmar. 60$ : Your money is not only to guide or me , where is money go is to your dinner , lunch , Breakfast , 3 days trekking is 7 times meals include, Not only noddle .If only noddle very good for you because its is much more nutritious than rice. Also to give local farmer house to stay over night there and use fire wood and water to wash. Any way , I am stay remember that morning you looking around down town , No one want to join with you That's I am understand you join with us. The other 2 clients are very nice different than you. Choosing our company to do the 3n / 2d trek Kalaw-Inle (the 6th since the beginning of our 3 month trip) took us time upstream on the internet. Indeed, we wanted to be in a small group, with a guide speaking both good English, and knowing the places and the local culture. Moreover, this trek being particularly frequented, we wanted to try to avoid the beaten track.
So our choice was "Alex Eagle", which had very good comments. So we put the price: at least 2 times more expensive than the other companies, we were entitled to expect quality! ($ 60 vs. $ 30 for other companies)
The result was only bitter disappointment: the guide (Aung Aung) spoke only an extremely poor English, so he could hardly answer our questions (when he understood them ...). Although very sympathetic and trying to do his best, he totally ignored our repeated demands for beings (at least apparently) on less frequented paths (we know full well that there are people, but at least give us the illusion that we are relatively lonely by adjusting to the rhythm of other groups).
Moreover, he confirmed to us throughout the journey that we ate exactly the same thing as the other groups, and scrupulously followed the SAME PATHS ... (Lunch served at the same place and exactly the same for all groups : Noddles)
The meetings with the families were good times, but the landscapes are far from those to which we aspirated (only the trek of Hsipaw for exemple in Burma, was much more beautiful).
The best meeting, in the end, was the couple of Croats with whom we made this trek. We learned a lot more about them and Croatia, than about the Burmese, what an enormous mess!
The only one responsible in all this, in our opinion, is not the guide, who tried to do his best, but the head of the agency!
- he charges TWICE the PRICE to his customers compared to the other groups, without absolutely any surplus value (we did EXACTLY the same thing): where goes the money ???
- the choice of the guide is a scandal: for such a price, having almost no explanation on anything is clearly insufficient!
Conclusion: do not get you like us! For this trek in any case, nothing pays to pay twice the price for the same thing in less well!
