While visiting Kalaw at the end of January 2023, I was looking for a trekking guide and Soe Paing from "Green Discovery" was recommended to me. I booked a day tour and can only say the best about my experience. Soe Paing is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and just a very nice person. Not only did I learn about Kalaw and the surrounding area and its nature, but also about Myanmar, its history and its people. On our tour, I was impressed by the great landscape and the nice views. We have passed to villages of the " Palaung " people and I really enjoyed Soe Paings company and guidance along the way. If you are looking for a guide, do not think twice and go with Soe Paing. I am deeply thankful for the experience and can only highly recommend it!

We booked a 3d2n trekking from Kalaw to Pindaya with Thaik Soe for 75$ per Person just for the two of us. It's a great tour that will lead you through spectacular landscapes, a lot villages and over many hills ;) The first night we stayed in a monastery, the second in a farmers house. If you are in Nov or Dec (it's the best time for this trek) in Kalaw you really should consider doing this tour instead of the one to Inle. It's less touristic and you will see a lot of the real Myanmar life. Thaik Soe is the best guide I have ever had. He is kind, patient, caring and he knows almost everything. He has so many stories to tell, you will never get bored. We, two girls, felt save all the time. The second day we visited a kinder garden in a village on the way, where we could buy pencils, books and candies for the kids. Thaik Soe sheared the amount with us. He has really a good heart, which is important if you spending that much time together. Thanks for all, Thaik Soe!

Our trek with Alex was one of the coolest things I've ever done, and absolutely the most unique and memorable part of our visit to Japan, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. First, Alex is a great guy, very friendly, very educational about tribal life, and cares about the people he takes trekking.
Then the trek itself, winding over mountains and through valleys, walking through tribal villages, and Alex is either teaching you something about the customs of the people and their farming, or he's just being funny and fun to be with.
We spent the night in a tribal village, in the home of someone Alex knows there. Alex prepared a wonderful native supper for us, and the elderly lady there prepared a wonderful native breakfast for us. I wish I had brought something to leave her as a gift.
Most places I go, there's some small complaint that I could make if I tried, but the trek with Alex was pure positive. I cannot overstate how cool a trip it was. Only complaint is that my friend and I didn't have time to schedule a longer trek!

We did the 3 days tour with Jack from Kalaw till Inle lake. It was awesome! He was a really good guide, with perfect english knowledge and knowledge of the whole area. We could ask him everything! On this trekking tour we met a lot of real Myanmar mountain people, which was hilarious. Additionally we slept in a home stay with real Myanmar food and in a youth monastery, which was my favourite experience, if I should choose one. Thank you so much Jack for the whole 3 days experience

I joined a 3D2N trekking trip with Jack and Sunshine from GreenDiscovery. It was one of the best experience I have had. They are both very knowledgable about the route and they tried to explain almost every single thing about the trek and they both tried their very best to make sure I was well taken care of. They simply treat you as their good friends and that was really heart-warming. Nevertheless, every meal that they prepared were simply finger-licking. I am really glad to have joined their tour and I can not wait to go back again. highly recommended !!!!

Jack Soe is an amazing guide! Not a month goes by that I don't think about this trek and going back for a second one. He is fun, smart, and quick with a joke. It helps that he has all the good inside knowledge of the area around Kalaw and Inlay Lake.

Green Discovery organized an awesome 3-day trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake. While searching for a trekking company in Kalaw, I met a few other travelers in town and we decided to book together a 5 person trek at Green Discovery. Their guide was nice and his English was pretty good. Our private cook made amazing breakfasts, lunches and dinners! The best I had in Myanmar. First night we stayed in a farm and the second in a monastery. It is very basic, but nice to experience local culture in this way. After a day of trekking, even a bucket shower is a treat! Me and my friend did a 1night 2day trek from Kalaw to Myin Dike Village. In the first day, we trekked from Kalaw to Myin Dike Village and our guide Ko Soe Paing cooked dinner and breakfast for us and he let us to participate in cooking. It was so delicious. In the second day, we went back to Kalaw and sightseeing around Kalaw such as Railway Station, Roman Catholic Church and Myin Ma Hti Cave. If i have a chance, i want to trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake for 2nights 3days with Ko Soe Paing and my friends. Our guide Ko Soe Paing was very pleasant ,knowledgeable and reliable. I highly recommend going with him.

We would recommend this place to book your attractions at Kalaw and nearby.
They organized for us a pick up at the airport, full day out around the region and trek the next day. They even provided us a guide to do a tour on the Inle lake.
We did the 2 day trek with a very nice guide (we were supposed to have Sunshine but she canceled last minute, so we had Ko Nyein) who was able to explain a lot of interesting facts in a very good english ! He was a very good person and we had a very pleasant time with him. He was very careful with our needs and very comprehensive.

Bonjour,
Hello,
We are 2 French tourists who think to arrive in Kalaw Sunday 11 December by the night bus coming from Mandalay. We want to cross the look of people who populate your area through hiking. Can you take us on Sunday 11 to the caves of Pindaya and start a 2 to 3 days hike back to KALAW. We want to take the train from Kalaw to Nyaung shwe and be there by December 13.
Does this project make sense for you to meet the different ethnic groups in your area?
Thank you for making a practical proposal and a quote?
Thanks you and good continuation

Hi,
Thank you for your quick answer. This trip proposal seems good for us. Will it be possible to take the train to go to Inle lake the last day ? At what time in this train ? How much is it for this 3 day trip ?
Looking forward to reading from you.
Best regards,
Laurence

Hi! I was wondering if you need to book for these tours, or if it's something that you arrange when you arrive in the town itself? I know that I am travelling there in high season and don't want to miss out!
Thanks!
Beth

Hi Beth,
you should book in advance if you want to be sure. There are many agencies that will offer this trekking to Inle but it might happen that you have to wait for the next day. Also, the guides need time for preparation (2-3h) as they will have to call the villages in which you will stay overnight for example.
Enjoy your trip!
