Trip of a lifetime. We did selfdrive ourselves against all warnings about rough unmarked roads in parks and ALL went perfectly well. We had a powerful V8 landcruiser that managed to easily get out of the couple of mud puddles we ran into!
Wildlife was delightful and plenty, views were stunning, people are beyond nice, LOVELY! Everyone greets you and they are always happy to help. I hope I am lucky enough to go again soon.
The tenting above the car was comfortable enough and bigger than the ground tent that we had brought so we used the roof tent most of the times.
The car rental service was freindly and trust worthy. Messages on Whatsapp were answered quickly and we felt we had our back covered the entire way. Luckily all went smooth. Highly recommend this trip to anyone who's willing to put in some effort to do a self drive, which was well worth every second and every penny!

We had a great experience with sevice from selfdrivekenya. I loved to explore kenya this way. We rented a 4x4 with rooftoptent, camping supplies and a fridge. The landcruiser, although not being very new, has great value for money. It is really sturdy, powerfull and suitable for the rough roads you can face in the parks. Gloria is very responsive, reliable and helpful. We experienced a minor issue, which could easily be resolved and mechanics got to us very rapidly. Would rent again!

Probably the best Self Drive option in Kenya. They are very reliable, friendly and fast. Reservation, booking and payment were really easy and the communication and support was very friendly and professional. We added camping gear and they had everything ready for us by the time of our arrival. The car (landcruiser) was reliable and we passed every obstacle and off-road passage without any problems. The air-conditioning was not working but there were no other issues. I can highly recommend booking with seldrive kenya! Thanks for the warm welcome and for the good service!

We did a self drive safari in Kenya and Tanzania. The vehicle worked great mechanically, but adding a tire pressure gauge to the kit would go a long way when you need to reduce tire pressure for rough roads. The vehicle we rented was registered for Uganda, so at every national park we visited, we had to pay a substantially higher entrance fee for the vehicle. The rear shocks were completely shot. So we had to go really slow over the paved speed bump, and made wash board gravel roads were extremely rough even at slow speeds.
Self Drive Kenya is also does their Billing through another company called Bush Troop Safaris..I was concerned about a Bait and Switch, fortunately the reviews were comparable to Kenya Self Drive.
If I would do this trip again I would omit Kenya from the Itinerary to spend more time in Tanzania, if budget is a concern, go to Botswana. In Botswana you pay more for a rental vehicle, but they come more equipped from different companies (hilux truck, secured bed topper, tow strap, shovel, auxiliary battery for refrigerator) and you pay substantially less in Park Fees.
We also stored some luggage we didn’t need with the company while on safari, and that was very helpful.
Again nothing wrong with the vehicle everything worked, and we had no issues, but I wouldn’t give it anything more than an Average Rating..

SelfDriveKenya made our african roadtrip dream come true: easy and flexible we just stepped by the office in Nairobi where Gloria replied to all our questions willingly. The final plan was set and the next day we received the fully equiped 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser (Including rooftoptent and all necessities for camping) directly at our hotel. After Fred gave us an introduction to the car and some tipps for the road we were good to go and started our adventure direction North Kenya to Ol Pejeta Conservancy and Samburu National Park. With the quick and easy to set up rooftop tent, which is surprisingly spacious and comfortable, we could not only discover the national parks by self driving, we could even stay inside the national parks and sleep next to wild animals - a once in a lifetime experience we will never forget. No matter if any question on the road or concerning the camping stuff or even our spontaneous extend of the rent, Gloria was 24/7 available and always ready to help - truly an amazing customer service !!! :-))) Thank you SelfDriveKenya and Gloria for making this amazing experience possible - we highly recommend and want to come back soon!!!

We rented two cars with the company as well as camping equipment for 6 Persons.
The first issue was that the car arrived super late and we couldn’t start our long drive on the first day as we planned to.
The camping equipment was only for 5 Persons even though we booked for 6. One person had to sleep on the floor because we lacked a mattress. Also one car had a completely empty gas tank on arrival.
The second issue was the condition of the tires. One car came with extremely worn down tires which of course broke down during our journey and needed to be replaced.
Then there was an issue with the police. We got stopped and the police controlled the car’s papers. Unfortunately the papers the company provided were invalid and expired for a couple days...
We also got an engine failure on one car and couldn’t continue our journey. We went to a garage and got a good deal to fix it but the rental company didn’t want us to fix it.
Communication with the company was terrible and they were rude on several occasions. Once they just hung up the phone because they didn’t want to deal with our issue.
We had a wonderful adventure anyways but it’s a pitty to deal with problems like these on your vacation when they were preventable in the first place. I recommend the company to do routine checks on the cars, comply with booking dates and informations and to be more insightful and helpful when dealing with customers.
