A lot is made of Iga-Ueno's connection with the Ninja. Probably was good once upon a time but now quite overdone. The castle itself is about average as Japanese small castles go with so-so displays of samurai armor etc. The ninja house would be the...More

I felt this castle could be displayed better. There was not much described for this castle inside. If I could learn about the history and background through items shown, the experience would be much better. It is a good solid castle to visit with interesting...More

This castle is a little out of the way for most people, and I've only gone out to the area on business. That said, I would argue that despite it's smaller size, it feels much more impressive than Osaka Castle simply because it isn't surrounded...More

I would visit it if I was visiting the Iga-Ueno Ninja Museum but not go out of my way to visit the castle only when there are many more castles that are easier to get to like Osaka Castle or Himeji Castle. They were setting...More

Throughout my Japan trip, I stayed in Osaka so it was challenging going to Iga City with roughly 3-hrs travel time not to mention the 'waiting time'. Since this is Mie Prefecture, I can't tell for sure but during my trip there weren't many train...More

Ueno Castle is a very manageable size that one can easily cover in conjunction with a visit to the ninja museum on the same hill within the same park. It contains period art and various artifacts.
