Excellent tour with an interesting itinerary of carefully chosen historical and cultural sites. Knowledgeable and hospitable English-speaking Mexican guide who loves his country and culture. He gave very good suggestions for our safety and for dinners and sites to visit on our free time. We attended an outstanding performance of the Ballet Folklorico of Mexico at the historic Placio de Bellas Artes (arranged by our guide but not included in the price of the tour). The hotel was very centrally located: friendly staff and very clean, nice rooms with toiletries and safe. We enjoyed excellent and safe bus transportation from the front of our hotel to all sites on the itinerary. We also had excellent guided safe transportation to and from the airport. Ruth Hazelwood and her Mex-Eco Tours team have again provided a 5/5 tour. Very well done!

Monarch Butterflies- This was the most amazing trip, from the Booking & Payment, office staff were professional and very helpful. Noel our Tour Guide was a l0+ he was very knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely helpful, everything was well organized, he took the time to talk to everyone. Omar the driver was excellent, always on time- great driver. The Bus was very comfortable with stops just at the right time. The highlight was seeing the butterflies , can't even describe the feeling. I would highly suggest the horse ride up the mountain unless you are in very good shape. Morelia was very interesting, and great hotel in centre of town, great shopping, and excellent cafe's . I would highly recommend this tour, and company! Take warn coat, it is much cooler than I expected, however great shopping if you need a poncho! looking forward to our next tour.

Our family was visiting from the States (we live in Mexico) so we contacted Mex-ECO tours for their half-day trip to Magdalena, along with a lunch stop and brief tour of nearby Tequila. They were very responsive to our specific requirements and times, and made sure we understood exactly what we were getting. The driver and tour guide were excellent, the van was very comfortable, and the tour was well-connected to the sites we visited, so everything went smoothly. The entire family had a great time!

If you want to experience something spectacular, and enjoy 4 star hotels and great food while doing it, then I highly recommend the Copper Canyon tour with Experience Mex-Eco tours! We did it in January 2022. They planned the itinerary down to every detail. The tour requires a considerable amount of travel by bus, airplane, and train, but Mexico is a big country, and Pancho, our tour guide who accompanied our group of 18 people gave knowledgable insight into the changing geography as we traveled through. The train ride aboard the Chepe Express conjured up childhood memories of a model railroad diorama as it winds through canyons, over trestles and through switchbacks and tunnels…and the experience is unforgettable. When you finally reach the Mirador hotel, the pace slows down. The temperature outside was freezing, (we are above 7,000 feet altitude, and it is January) but the fireplace in the dining/sitting room was inviting and warm. And the vista…you have to see it to believe it. What I have described is only a fraction of the unforgettable experience we enjoyed. We highly recommend taking this tour with Mex-Eco Tours. We certainly will again!

I shall never forget the memories I made on this amazing five day trip which featured the Monarch butterflies. Where to start? Well, getting on the bus was fantastic because my sister and I were picked up at a perfect spot that was convenient to us. Immediately, we met the guide, Noel, who became an instant friend, and the driver, Jorge, who got off the beautiful bus and welcomed us.
I like to be the driver and organizer on trips, but this trip, right from the moment I booked, I knew I could basically surrender. I had not a worry in the world. Jorge's driving skills were beyond superb. We applauded Jorge in certain small towns where there was no way anyone else could have maneuvered between power pole and parked cars. He is incredible.
Noel is the guide that shares just the right amount of information at the perfect time and allows for some silence and down time too. His knowledge is incredible, his curiosity sends him looking for more answers, and his kindness simply makes him someone one wants to be around. He anticipates everything people need and is the perfect morning host, making sure each person has what they want.
The locations and accommodations were perfectly chosen and operated. Each of the locations had its own magic.
This trip allowed me to fulfill a dream (butterflies) and to create anew one (a return - long term trip to Patzcuero). Magical moments happened on this trip - in a graveyard on free time, in a marketplace, in a Catrina artist cooperative, in a copper workshop, and under the full moon in a town square. New friends made and myriad stories written on my heart.
Thank you for everything, Ruth and crew. You're all amazing.

This is our 3rd trip booked with Mex-ECO tours. Ruth really works to get it planned well. Our tour guild Noel (2rd tout with him a guide) proved to be both knowledgeable and does an interesting presentation during the tour.
We did an overnight El Tuito and Mayto tour, stopping at the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Garden on the first morning . The garden entrance fee is covered by the tour payment. Had been to El Tuito before but not Mayto. This can easily be extended an additional day in the future. We visited a turtle reserve in Mayto, After an informative hour presentation learning about turtle, we participated in a release of babies.
Have no hesitation about booking with Mex-ECO.

My husband and I took the Huasteca Potosina trip with Experience Mex-Eco tours and loved it.
We had been thinking of taking a trip on our own to this remote area of the San Luis Potosi state but had never gotten around to it.
When I saw that Ruth had a tour there, I signed right up. I am so happy we chose the tour over going on our own.
The local guides were knowledgeable and fun, Ruth herself was our "main guide" and she kept us organized really well.
The waterfalls and rivers really are as gorgeous in person as in pictures, maybe more so. We were taken right to the places, no trying to follow local road signs, figure out where to park, etc.
The trip included main highlights of the region and we visited a variety of places.
Sometimes traveling in a group is a bit of a hinderance, but in this case we both felt the trip was much more fun sharing the experiences with others. We jumped from waterfalls, paddled boats up a river, hiked to a big cave, and ziplined and rode Sky Bikes.
Everyone compared it to Summer Camp for Adventurous Adults.
I'm so glad we went on this tour.
The area has very spotty cell coverage and the whole Covid19 "situation" was just starting to get a lot of attention in the US and Canada so Ruth spent large amounts of time helping guests find out what was going on, how it would impact travel, and making sure everything was going as planned for our tour.

This being my first season as a solo traveller two of my concerns were safety and inclusiveness. After planting my travel roots in Bucerias I decided to try the Morelia Monarch Butterflies five day tour with Mex Eco tours. From the moment I boarded the bus I knew I had made a wise choice. Noel, the tour guide made each person feel welcome and was an excellent and knowledgeable guide. Jorge was a highly skilled driver and I was confident of my safety. Sights, accommodations and food were all top notch. Fellow travellers became fast friends. Never did I feel alone in the mix of 55+ aged travellers and at the same time I felt free to have alone time when I so desired.
Subsequently I took another tour with MexECO tours namely the trip to Chiapas. Again the tour guide Noel and driver Carlos were people I could put my trust in. When unexpected challenges arose the guide and driver turned them into a safe and cultural adventure for us. I am a people person and the experiences I had involving local people were heartwarming. Smiling is a universal language that needs no translation!
My travel tip (pardon the pun) is to be generous when tipping the tour guide and driver. My personal tipping guideline is 6dollars per traveller per day for the driver and 10dollars per traveller per day for the tour guide. Remember that they took responsibility for your safety and well being!

We did a day trip with Mex-Eco to Cuzalapa to experience a women’s cooperatively-run coffee operation. It was so fantastic to visit this area of Mexico and see how these empowered women run their grassroots business. Our driver and tour guide, Chito, was awesome and so knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the region and felt completely safe on the mountain roads in the comfy and air conditioned van. The entire trip from start to finish was handled so professionally, (and the food was excellent). I highly recommend Mex-Eco and will definitely be booking a future trip with them soon!

Do you have a tour going to Guadalajara Jan., Feb, March 2019? from Melaque?
Written September 28, 2018
Good afternoon Frannie,
Sorry for my delay in replying, I was away this weekend. As kindly mentioned by the posters above we have 2 overnight Guadalajara tours planned (1 in December and 1 in March).
If you would like more info then please write to us at our email and we will gladly help you out any way we can.
Regards,
Dan

These tours are on several of our friend's bucket lists. They are all seniors in great shape, who can zip line and climb mountains with the best but the prevailing concern of bus tours is a long drive with few bathroom breaks. More then 2 hours in a bouncing bus put them in the panic zone?
Written June 3, 2018
Hi, as the comments above say our bus tours use modern luxury buses with onboard washroom facilities and we also stop regularly for leg stretches and additional restroom breaks.
This coming season we are also going to be flying more directly where possible on our tours which have flights so that we are minimising more our time spent on buses.

Can you give me some information about Manzanillo Botanical Gardens & Sea Turtle Tour? I will be in Manzanillo next week. How can I get there by local bus? Thanks, Lyla Rapelje
Written March 31, 2018
Good afternoon Lyla. Our tour departs from Melaque and I am afraid I do not have a tour next week.
If you contact Tommy and Patty directly here at Ola Brisa’s Gardens they will be able to arrange a visit to the gardens for you.

Dan

Good afternoon. The cost is $6,000 pesos per person based on two people sharing. If you would like a room to yourself then the cost is $7,200 pesos.
This is with departure from The Melaque / Manzanillo area or PV / Bucerias area. If you are elsewhere then we can communicate and arrange that.

Hi, we are pleased you will be visiting the area. our day trips from Melaque/Barra include the Cuzalapa Coffee Tour and the Botanical Gardens & Sea Turtles tour. You can also book boat/fishing trips through us, as well as ATV tours and a Colima tour. In February we are coming to the end of nesting season for sea turtles, so the overnight camping trip is better earlier in the season. Please let us know if you would like to make a reservation.
You can see more information on these trips from our website, on the 'Tours departing from Melaque' page (under 'Day trips departing from Melaque/Barra de Navidad')
We hope you have a great stay in Barra :)
