Susan England at Los Cocos offers some great tours! We did the River Tour and Wildlife Refuge tour. Both with Amon. He is so knowledgeable about all flora and fauna, wildlife, the history of the area, and you can tell he is speaking from his heart and absolutely loves what he does. We learned so much on both tours and enjoyed ourselves immensely! We also went snorkeling after the Wildlife Refuge in a quiet spot and saw some colorful fish. We also saw a large pod of spotted dolphins so close to our boat! And don't worry about being on a large tour. There were only 4 or 5 of us on each tour. Nice small friendly groups. Susan also arranges your boat transport from Golfito and will also arrange fishing trips. If you're planning a visit to Zancudo contact Susan!

We used Los Cocos for two tours and a prearranged private water taxi ride. The service was outstanding and we were beyond delighted with each experience. Starting with the simplest - the water taxi ride was easy to prearrange before we even arrived in Costa Rica, as a strategic leg of our Osa roamings. (We had to get from Puerto Jimenez over to our next lodging in Zancudo, and the service was dock to door so we didn’t have to worry about dragging our luggage around Zancudo on arrival.) I was grateful to have it in place. The owner Susan England was super responsive by email and everything worked perfectly as planned. She was also very accommodating and fair on booking the tours we wanted even though minimum numbers weren’t always available. The two tours we took out of Zancudo were so different from each other, and yet each gave us a thrilling glimpse into this special area. The mangrove and river tour was quietly fascinating. Amon our fantastic guide and captain shares his deep knowledge and love of the place with engaging modesty. Impossible not to enjoy spending time with him. We cruised by many beautiful birds, including tiger heron, kingfisher, osprey etc. — watched crocodiles slide off the banks, heard the story of the river estuary and enjoyed learning about the flora and ecology of mangroves. The tour to the Nature Sanctuary (a rescue and rehab facility for local wildlife) has to be a highlight of any nature-lovers visit to the area. Do. Not. Miss. It. Just trust me and go. A huge privilege to see fauna one otherwise would not encounter. Our tour combined the nature center with a short and lovely snorkeling experience in a quiet neighboring bay with a small coral reef. We were lucky enough to see a sea-turtle swimming yards from the boat, as well as beautiful reef fish while snorkeling. On the way out, a pod of several hundred dolphins leapt out of the bay all around us - glorious! Again, the delightful Amon brought us skillfully and safely there and back, offering insights and information on everything of interest - from geology (formation of Golfo Dulce from a volcanic caldera) to the habits of the dolphins, frigate birds and pelicans. We saw so much, learned so much, had such an amazing time we are only sorry we couldn’t do it all over again!

We are in Zancudo for a month and after checking out a number of tours decided to book with Susan for the wildlife refuge tour. Amon picked us up sharp on time and after a short drive we and only one other couple left is his boat for the tour. Amon is extremely knowledgeable as he has been in Zancudo for over ten years. The animals we saw were really interesting and the refuge guide again, very knowledgeable. Then back in the boat for some optional snorkelling, all equipment provided, and then a beautiful experience of seeing at least a dozen dolphins swimming right beside our boat. A great tour with a great guide. Thank you Susan for putting the tour together for us and Amon for the time he spent with us! Both of us would highly recommend!

We stayed in Zancudo two weeks, and one of the highlights for us was the river trip we took with Amon. I work as a naturalist/guide, and I was so impressed with his calm competency. It was an utter pleasure to spend a few hours on the river with him. We are big birdwatchers, and Amon is really knowledgeable and patient. I agree with what another reviewer wrote: "pleasant, helpful, low-keyed and very informative." We were not interested in the wildlife refuge, but loved exploring up the river -- the big treat for us was a herd of crimson-fronted parakeets chittering in a couple of palms an annoying a lineated woodpecker.

Susan England and her boat captain Amon were great hosts for our vacation in Zancudo. This is our 4th trip here and Los Cocos is always a great resource for lodging and activities. The river tour through the mangroves is always fun and informative.
