Came here with some friends and we sat outside because there wasn't any room inside, after 10 minutes we got asked if we were all over 18 (why would a bunch of 15 year olds head to the pub at 10pm?) and then got told that 'it's not a picnic place' and to buy a drink if we wanted to stay! I think maybe the staff should learn some customer service, will not be visiting again.

We have know this pub for years, the finest pint of Harveys to be found. But never had occasion to eat here. However, we have moved from the area, but found ourselves back in Crowborough visiting family and had a free evening so called round for a much needed pint of Harveys and decided to stay and eat....
Ordered a slow cooked half shoulder of lamb and a homemade burger. The chips with the burger where under-cooked, the cheese in the burger overpowering the beef, but the main complaint was the lamb; it needed another 2 hours slow cooking..... my wife left nearly it all as it was a struggle to part the meat from the bone.
But the complaint goes beyond just the quality of the food, customer service was poor, the barmaid was left to handle the situation having rang the manager/owner who was only upstairs, to advise him of a problem. His remedy was to tell her to apologise and not to charge for the dish. But he had just walked past us and the plate of uneaten lamb, failed to notice, finally the barmaid returned from the kitchen and stated the chef agreed; the lamb was under-cooked, but no sign of either the chef or manager in person. Pretty poor show.... Happy to return for a pint, but will never eat here again nor would recommend.
Please see my other reviews, I feel I am fair and where deserved do not hesitate to give high praise and recommendations.

Good beer - mainly Harvey's. Sensible menu with cheaper options. Character pub with some outdoor tables. Beer festival weekends and some live music. Mature clientele. Enjoy!

We have lived in the area and visited this pub for over 25 years. Really disappointed today, the beer garden was full of dogs, all off the lead except ours, pestering us the whole time which ruined our night, so we had to leave. I am mobility challenged which didn't help as my dog was anxious for me, met by husband straight from work; who had 2 dogs muddy paws on his suit, so now dry cleaning bill. Come on The Wheatsheaf , sort out your pub garden, horrible evening.PS the dog dirt in the garden is a serious health hazard, would not recommend this pub for families.

Friendly and busy pub where locals gather to gossip, with nice garden to relax in on warm days. Good cider and beer on tap.

Loved this little pub. We went at lunch time, the food is amazing with an extensive menu for such a small place (we had Thai red curry, bangers & mash & roast beef baguette but there is loads more to sample and a daily specials board). The atmosphere is friendly and it is clearly popular with locals. There is a pretty garden to sit in but as we went on a rainy day we enjoyed the warmer indoor atmosphere. It is very small so get there early to avoid disappointment. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and will definitely go again when next in the area.

At first glance the Wheatsheaf looks a little worn at the edges, but don't let appearances put you off. The welcome is genuine (I particularly liked the notice warning customers that if their mobile phone rings, they have to donate £1 to the pub's charity), the beer is well kept, and the food is really freshly prepared, well presented, excellent value, and above all else, also delicious. We sat outside on sturdy benches in a sun-trap garden, and idled away a couple of hours over lunch. There were a handful of local around the bar, and a group of businessmen enjoyed their meal at an adjoining table to ours. Other that the murmur of their conversation, the only sounds we heard were a couple of stray aircraft, and the hourly train service in the distance.
