If you wish to get away from the hustle-and-bustle of Marrakech, which inevitably wears on you after a few days (or hours), look no further than taking a trip with Jamal's Berber Travel Adventures. I came across Jamal's company through a blogger's experience, and from the moment we agreed to doing a day trip, Jamal was extremely helpful in helping us get transportation to Amizmiz from Marrakech, never trying to upsell us more costly transportation ways or otherwise.
We did the day trip with Jamal and he was extremely polite, helpful, thoughtful, and patiently explained to us every detail of the surrounding areas and its history, climate, and customs. Our stops at locals' homes were excellent, as we were received with hot tea, delicious bread, tagine, and locals took the time to sit with us and chat about life.

We went for a 17km hike with our berber guide Jamal. We crossed hills, seen barley fields, walnut and almond trees. Many conversations we carried along the way with Jamal about the country, the local people and things we've seen. A few times, Jamal pointed out herbs that are either spices or medication. Barley looked just like grass if I were not told. A centurial old almond tree looked like 40 years old in my humble eyes It's because there was no human water system in the Atlas mountains. Trees and plants get what the mother nature gives them.
We passed through a few berber villages. I remembered I almost screamed the first time when I saw a village from the top down in the valley. It was exactly what I had seen in the google pictures and what dragged me to the hike with Jamal.
We had our lunch in a tiny village where we've only seen women and kids. The hosting lady and her mom welcome us like Christmas. We brought some treats for the family which you don't have to but we love to. Hiking in the mountains, talking to local guide, having a lunch in a local family and seeing their life couldn't be more meaningful if Morrancan culture attracts you like me.
Jamal took his time let us taking pictures and helped us taking pictures. He is an experienced hiker, a true local who was brought up in the mountains and a good fun person to hike with. He also impressed me as a well rounded person. He can only tell you about his country, his neighborhood, even some deep conversation with personal viewpoints. He respects where we are coming from as well as the locals. It was truely an unforgettable experience hiking the Atlas mountains with Jamal. Hiking when I am travelling isn't usually something that I do but this is a great way to hang out with locals and see the remote ancient living style. Highly recommend!!!

We cannot recommend Jamal and Berber Travel Adventures anymore highly. My husband and I were wanting to go outside of Marrakech and visit the High Atlas Mountains and some Berber (Amazigh) villages but were hesitant to due to the recent earthquake. I got in touch with Jamal to see this was possible and he was very open and planned an excursion that showed us first hand the beauty of the area but also the reality the people are living with since the earthquake. Jamal lives in the area and knows everone you pass while walking and he seems well respected in the community. Though our time was limited we felt we really got a glimpse into every day life, meeting local families and going to the Tuesday Market was a highlight. We had six guides in different regions while we were in Morocco and Jamal was by far our favorite. He was so generous, knowledgeable and kind. I would not hesitate recommending Jamal for any of his excursions.

We went on a trip to Amizmiz 13 years ago with Jamal and really enjoyed it, so this time we decided to take our friends with us to enjoy the experience too.
We were taken from our hotel in Marrakesh to Amizmiz where we were met by Jamal, our tour guide ( who was there 13 years ago). Firstly we went round the local market and then along with Mohammed and Ayesha the mule ( who kindly carried our bags!) we walked for about an hour through the valley to a small local village. We were met by some sweet little girls who hugged us and boys reciting their Koran lessons, and made our way to our hosts house where lunch was being freshly prepared for us.
We sat in a large communal room and chatted whilst lunch was served, which was chicken tagine and bread followed by fresh fruit. Our hosts were very welcoming and afterwards showed us round their house. What a lovely experience! Everyone had a great time chatting with Jamal and our host, who spoke very good English. A great day to end our trip to Morocco on.

I just returned from a one-week journey in Morocco with a group of almost 30 persons. Jamal and his colleagues were our guides for the whole week: Marrakesh, Atlas, a tour of several berber villages, a night in the desert...Everything was amazing and Jamal and his colleagues were very kind, professional, and always ready to help. I really recommend them, amazing guides!

I heartily recommend this tour company. If you are interested in an introduction to Berber (more properly Amazigh) culture, there is no better choice. The owner, Jamal, himself a member of the Amazigh people, is not just knowledgable, having lived among the very sites and people we visited, but he is also an unusually thoughtful and attentive guide. As a woman in her 80s, I felt at all times that I was in capable and trustworthy hands. And, Jamal is a pleasure to be with -- highly intelligent and amusing. On our tour, we were driven to a fascinating marketplace in the Atlas Mountains, then treated to an unforgettable lunch in an Amazigh village. Jamal was never anything but gracious. I would do this again in a heartbeat. Inshallah!

we did 1day tour with Jamal in Amizmiz for joining tue market. jamal seem know everyone at this area and quite nice with good English. he is knowledgeable and kind and patience. although market is smaller than my expectation(since no rain quite long time, less berber come to market recently) but i still see some diff stuff with Taroudannt or other place local market. tea time in market also enjoyable, everyone is nice at this area.
after market visit, we start the trekking to sidi hssaine, which is berber village, although the local don't like photo taking but the scenery is quite beautiful. getting many colorful mountain view and lunch at berber house. we back to amizmiz on time. quite enjoyable tour. worth to join.

Such an amazing experience with Jamal. It was so lovely to have someone who was a true local, showing us around his area, and introducing us to his people. We felt very welcome, and everyone who met hosted us with amazing hospitality. Including lovely tea, amazing homemade tagine, and beautiful scenery. Couldn’t recommend highly enough!

Jamal once again exceeded all expectations with his organisation of our family 4 day excursion to the Sahara and surrounds. He even managed to slip a few surprises into the already full agenda. A wonderful few day’s mixing culture, geography and huge amounts of “wow”. Special mention here too for Mohamed, our intrepid and at times brave driver.

We have just returned from an incredible trek to the top of Mt Toubkal. Jamal and Hamid were simply the most brilliant, friendly and professional guides. They looked after us superbly and adapted to our needs at all times. This made it such a memorable and enjoyable challenge. Totally recommend!
