Fabulous day hike to this magnificent moutain. It was tough in 39c heat but 4 litres of water and a well marked/clear path made it relatively simple. I went quickly as had to get back to family but 1.45 hrs up and 50 mins down was a great experience and super fun. This route is for fit and prepared hikers not flip flop day trippers. Several other hikers were friendly and did summit pics. Well worth the drive of 2 hrs each way. SUPER.

Having read a few reviews and guides online we were expecting an epic trip to the summit. Not at all, it was a great path from the car park all the way to the summit. We were two fairly fit and active people doing the walk and we used about 3 hours up and down, though we were keeping a steady pace. It's steady uphill most of the way, so you get up quite high quickly and the views are spectacular! Windy and chilly on the top, so take a long armed top or jacket. Otherwise, a totally do-able trip for experienced hikers. Well recommended if you're a keen mountain goat on holiday : )

i would recommend a climb up but i wont jump to the evnt anytime soon. Make sure you have the correct shoes. You knees coming down is not easy.

If this mountain was in the UK, there would be thousands of people hiking it every day, there would be caravan parks and hotels, restaurants etc etc. After driving three hours to get there, its in the very middle of the island amongst a stunning mountain range, some tricky roads, we came to the plateau and taverna, car park which is the starting point. The taverna was empty, a few rickity chairs, we were glad to to give them our custom!
We had a map and the weather at the base was warm but we were prepared for cold as the peak is at 2,500 metres. We were not prepared for how tricky the route and terrain was. It was steep, unrelenting. The whole time we saw just three other hikers.. they were coming down having not reached the summit, and an old Greek goat herd, who told us that we had another 2.5 hours to go, when we had already hiked 2 hours!!
We finally got to around 2,300 metres when the cloud wind and rain became really fierce, so we turned back, I can't remember how long it took to get down but it was a looong way and very slow!
Apparently the views from the peak are incredible, I wouldn't know. They need to improve the route, as the National Trust do in England and promote the place. It should be the jewel in Crete's crown, instead its a tough, lonely old mountain!

We used 10 hours from the parking lot at the starting point and back. The trail is very rocky and with many snow fields, one of them was really long and slippery. Approaching the summit was very windy. Better to pack a long sleeve.

It is quite a hike, from the Nida plateau to the top of Psiloritis/Mount Ida. The views going upward are not that great, but when you have a view from the top, you can see large parts of the island. Being there is a great feeling!
When we visited (in May), we needed to cross a few snowfields, of which one was quite long (and tough), and one was on such an angled slope that it was a bit scary. Not a route for people (too) scared of heighs!
On our way back we took the alternative route. It is a bit more strenuous, because it goes up and down more, and the path is more difficult to find and quite rough. It does offer more views, however, and it crosses less snowfields.
It took us about 8 hours to make the roundtrip, with the normal route on the way up, and the alternative one on the way back. It was a great experience, but it is not likely I will repeat this hike because of it's so strenuous and it takes such a long time before your efforts are rewarded with great views.

We started at the end of a really good road up from Livadia. The way up was in good condition and well marked with signs and painted dots. We have read warnings of this and that but forget it and go! Everything was great. Just remember that it can be cold up there. We started from the car in 30degrees but at the summit around 12! And windy!

If you want a challenging walk in a pristine peaceful wilderness, the hike to the summit of Psiliritis is well-worth the effort. There are two routes, and the one I did leaves off from the Nida plateau side, where you'll also find the Zeus' Cave.
The route needs very good footwear, ideally trousers (unless you don't mind your legs being scratched mercilessly from the gorse), hat, suncream, and possibly sticks and gloves (in case you fall into the gorse)... You'll also definitely need lots of water (3-4litrs) and some food. The bird life, alpine flowers, and butterflies are abundant, and a real pleasure for me was the hike across three good-sized snow fields on the route to the top. The only sounds you'll hear are the eagles and other birds, and the sounds of sheep bells everywhere. And amazingly there's no sign of litter.
I think(?) the route is given as 7.5 klms., but my GPS records every step so gave me a distance of 9.5 klms one way... Anyway, it's a long walk up and down (8-9 hrs without a long break), with some pretty steep slopes, but well-worth it. You need to be pretty fit...

Nice time to visit Psiloritis Mountain. A lot of snow and a little bit cold. But when you comes to final destination it’s a great achievement
