These castle ruins are a mere ten minutes drive from Wahalla. So, if you are that close, then it makes sense to visit this place too. While there is not a whole lot to see outside, it is still impressive. At first, my wife thought it was silly of us to drive up a windy road not knowing where we were headed. However, life is like that. At the top, we had some more amazing views of Wahalla, the countryside, and the Danube!

Great ruin for a side trip. Parking hard to find if you don't know the area, but we parked low in town and enjoyed the walk up. 15 mins at a slow pace to some amazing views on a unique ruin.

As I grew up in that area, I also often visited this place.
I personal consider this as a nice place, worth viewing, but most interesting for me is that place in the evening/night time (but might be not officially legal - anyways, there are still ppl around).
You have a good view from there (Regensburg and even a part of Walhalla) and you can enjoy the "silence" here.
During Silvester it is crowded like hell :-)

While heading to the Walhalla, we suddenly spotted a ruin and hey, you all know I really love ruins, so of course we drove up there and had a look!
The castle lies on a hill, and you can best reach it by car. There’s a parking spot in front of the small gate, right next to the cemetery there. You then head up to the wall before you turn left and walk up even higher.
The path is rather steep and not even at all, so it’s better with flat shoes.
You then head over a wooden bridge and through what probably was the gate once? Then you head on, and you can walk to the right or straight ahead to some sort of viewpoint.
From that point you can then ascend even higher, reaching a geodetic reference point and an even better viewpoint. To the left you can even spot the Walhalla, and to the right you can see Regensburg.
Unfortunately there are no signs telling you the history of that castle, but it’s still a really interesting spot. It’s open for all and you don’t have to pay an entrance fee, but once the sun has set, the gates are closed.

This is as named a castle ruin. On top of a hill overlooking the river it has great views and for those of you who like to wander round this type of place it is worth it as it also has numerous placards around giving a little insight into the history of the site. Personally it was worth the visit for the views alone. Nice place.

We were there as a family. We parked down below and walked to the ruins and over to Walhalla. The view from the ruins was very beautiful, but the surroundings (forest) also add to the overall picture! There is always something for children to climb.
