Not great
Nov 2019 • Couples
went to watch a band that was playing with another couple of our friends unfortunately they shouted last orders while band were playing and turned all lights on and emptied the place obviously not bothered about anything other than getting home early. The staff looked like they were in a dentist waiting room rather than behind a busy bar no interest at all
Also the coke on the gun is cheap watery stuff and ruins any spirit it's mixed with same for the tonic water on draft it's awful get some cans of mixers in so customers have a choice. The ladies toilet seat was also missing and the customer base in the place were shady to say the least most of them loud drunk swearing and yet again no involvement from staff customers even went and got bands instruments while band were on a break and stayed playing with them well out of order. This bar used to be great if needs a new team Who actually want to be there to bring ur back to a nice place to be

Cheap and cheerful
Oct 2019 • Couples
This was one of three budget stays. As we were going to a Ruby wedding do and needed one night's stay close to where we were going. This pub accommodation only cost £32 for the night. No breakfast included. There is a cafe attached which you can get your breakfast at. Even though there was still a DJ playing in the bar. We couldn't hear it from our top floor room. Having said that you can hear the outside traffic passing by. The room it's self was basic but clean. Lots of stairs to get up to it. There is some parking at the rear of the building. Not sure it's part of the pub though. Staff were friendly and the landlady we met the next morning was also very friendly. Not in a hurry to go back but wouldn't completely rule it out.

Very friendly and welcoming - smack in the middle of the town centre

Originally I booked in with booking.com for two nights, it was as much for the location as the price, the latter being very reasonable in any case for this area - but if you don't drive, the location is spot on, as it is literally in the high street in central Sowerby Bridge -, very good bus service to Halifax and also local services to the lovely surrounding villages in beautiful Calderdale. The train station is minutes away on foot with direct links to the surrounding major cities. Hosts Mandy and Ricky (aka Kel) are brilliant, nothing too much trouble, powerhouses of toil, the building is really old and interesting, a veritable maze in fact and the adjoining cafe also run by the aforementioned is great place for your breakfast and is obviously popular with locals too. There's a generous old-fashioned cobbled courtyard seating area and another bar underneath the main one. Don't expect the Hilton - at these prices you wouldn't get it anyway but it's decent clean accommodation with what you need. It's quickly clear that guests return on a regular basis and there is a good friendly rapport at the bar. Would definitely visit again.

We stay here whenever we come to Sowerby which is a few times a year and always have a good experience, staff are great and friendly, rooms are clean and tidy, beds comfy, great location close to all bars and great restaurants. Wouldn't say anywhere else basically when we come here, no breakfasts as yet but I know that is changing with their own cafe opening soon.

Very strange place

Very strange place, would be surprised if half the people in there were 18... much nicer places to visit in Sowerby Bridge

Locals Only?
Oct 2018 • Couples
My wife and I wanted to watch the football and they had two big screens here. We checked the place out and it seemed that it was only for locals so we had a look what else there was and had a walk down there instead.
This is a smallish pub with very little seating.

Hotel really bad
Dec 2018 • Solo
Maybe fine for drinks but I won't be coming back to the hotel ever again. It's a shame because I like the sister pub/hotel in Halifax (cheap and cheerful and friendly) so that is why I came here, but it is so bad.
Staff were rude on check-in, tried to overcharge me then got really snappy when I queried it, even though it was their mistake.
It's now gone midnight and floor is vibrating from loud music in bar below.
It's just so bad.
