A must if you live locally and enjoy walking

I am half way through the walk with my children and they are learning so much about history, geography, ecology and even geology. It is quite steep in places, but perfectly manageable with a baby on your back.

A beautiful part of the greensand ridge walk

One of our favourite places to start a walk. The views are wonderful and the walking is easy. You can head off in a variety of directions and all are beautiful. Also great that there is a pleasant little cafe to grab a coffee when you finish.

Excellent walk which is generally well signposted
May 2019
My wife and I completed this over 5 days starting at Leyton Buzzard and enjoyed days 1 and 3 best. The second day was rather boring after Woburn Abbey grounds but the final 2 day were better. Public transport connections were poor so to get back to out motorhome each night we had to get taxis on 4 occasions but the 190 bus got us back to Sandy from the finish at Gamlingay

Walked the section from Woburn to Eversholt (circular walk of 8 miles). Dry underfoot but can see it could get pretty muddy if it’s been wet. Lovely to walk through the deer park and also along the edge of the safari park where we saw rhino, bears, elephants, camel and lots more. Took us about 3.5 hours with lots of dawdling whilst we watched the animals.

Ideal walk if you have children as so much to see and there’s even a handy toilet stop as you cut through the car park of the safari park (plus a drinks machine).

Would suggest having a map or leaflet with you as a guide. Parking is free at the church in Woburn village.

If you want to do all of this walk it is about 40 miles in length, you can do bits at a time with plenty of parking spaces on the route, great views over the ousel valley, bedford.

Extremely peaceful.

I managed to do part of this walk earlier today even managing to stop at Houghton House on route.
The walk will require decent footwear as in places the ground is very uneven and because of the hot weather, extremely hard too.
I passed some stunning scenery along the way and located a wood called Kings Wood which was worth a detour through.
I passed some farmland with goats, sheep and cows but did not see deer which was a shame.
The walk is about 35/40 miles in total and although there are regular direction pointers,I did notice a few were not on some posts and had to ask passers by whether I was still on the walk.....luckily I was.
Most enjoyable and free!

Greensand ridge is a marvellous area for a stroll.
Aug 2017 • Family
Set above Ampthill and flowing back into it at many points and linking with the Park Greensand ridge is a good for views of the surrounding area, a great place to get fresh air and to weave in and out of tree lined avenues that served eventually Houghton House and open ridges. Many dog walkers and kite flyers like this area and you can see why. Great for a stroll or as one of the routes to Houghton House.

Pleasant walk

I just did a short stretch of this walk from Lidlington to Ampthill.
The walk comprised open country and woodland along well marked trails. The views across the Marston Vale were excellent and there are several pubs and eateries in Ampthill to add enjoyment to the walk.

Nice trail, worth a day out
Jul 2017 • Couples
Took the Ampthill to Woburn leg of this walk which is about 10 miles. Pretty well signposted apart from the trail going cold around Eversholt (check your maps, do your research, or just give up and go in the Green Man pub if it's a nice day...). Trail takes you through beautiful Ampthill park, through some very scenic farmland and eventually through the Woburn Estate deer park. For the middle of Bedfordshire we didn't do too badly on the animals we saw which included llamas, horses, cows, sheep, pigs, ducks, rabbits, swans, dogs, cats, squirrels, birds of prey and tons of deer. Finish up in Woburn for a nice pint, a dinner and a taxi ride home. Or don't finish at all. Plenty of nice pubs to get waylaid in!
