One of the best historic houses and gardens that we have visited for many years. The vegetable garden is huge and gives inspiration to us amateur gardeners. Great food in the tea room at reasonable prices. Just a few negatives, as others have said, local...More

Privately owned with the family in residence, so only open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Beautiful countryside and woodland all around. Interesting one hour tour of the house and family's history. Homely, comfortable feel to the place. Tea rooms don't open until 12.30, so...More

Having lived in Caterham for many years I didn’t know this place existed but I’m really glad we found it. We walked around the gardens which looked pretty good even though we have had some very dry weather. The house was lovely with beautiful furniture...More

We had an unfortunate experience but not sure if we will bother going back. The Electric failed in the cafe but they only serve ploughman's or basic sandwiches or toasted basic sandwiches anyway. The house tours cannot be booked in advance and they were all...More

Apologies for starting with a whinge but this takes away a deserved 5* for the gardens themselves. Signposting on local roads misses out a key turn off the through road and hence annoying turnaround... followed by a welcome when we were then too late for...More

Despite the fact that we have been through many weeks without decent rainfall, the gardens looked great. Obviously a little jaded with the heat and the time of year but you could really appreciate the fact that they would be outstanding when at their best....More

Gardens are beautiful and well worth a visit. Entry fee of £5 very acceptable with plenty to look at and to walk around. Many colourful plants, and all very well maintained. Cannot fault. Disappointed by the tea room. Having ordered 2 ploughman’s - one ham...More

Apparently opening, but could be very muddy. Quite a steep grassy slope to lake, take care if going with anyone vulnerable who may slip.
