I stayed in a B&B right in front of the Bessenthwaite Lake. This was one of the best stays I have ever had and all credit goes to the beauty of this lake. However, this is not a commercialized lake and hence not so much crowded or renowned. Still, while in the lake district, do plan to pay it a... More

Lovely lake. Very nice lake and area to visit. Lovely views and good area to walk around even on a dull wet day.

Very pretty lake lots of good level walking. Generally quieter than many of the other lakes. There is a boating club but whilst there we didn't see any boats on the water.

With careful planning you can walk all around the lake - but it is a long way. We stopped at several areas for short walks and the north end is really nice and very quiet with great view of the lake and mountains - not so good in the rain!

We stopped off at a layby near the Lake and spent half an hour or so just sitting by the water. It was beautiful, peaceful and clean. Well maintained paths and signage. Unspoilt and we got some stunning photographs. A real beauty spot and a great place for some "time out". Lovely!

The lake is really beautiful; I sat on a shingle beach close to the Ouse bridge and the views towards Skiddaw and the Edge rising to Ullock Pike were breathtaking.

Bassenthwaite is a beautiful unspoilt area of the Lake District. The lake is the crowning glory surrounded by some gentler fella perfect for walking off dinner in the local Sun Inn Ospreys visit in the summer and the RSPB have viewing points at Dodd well worth a visit

My wife and I walked around this lake on a beautiful sunny day... when I say around it, we got about 14 miles in and were about half way round, so gave up... but still, we loved it. There's just the odd sailing boat on there and there's no public water transport, so it's not commercial at all. This kind... More

The evening meal was excellant as was the breakfast the morning after. The massages and beauty care a little expensive but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for".It was raining the night we...
