JUST STUNNING!
Oct 2021
On our way back to our holiday pods after a day in Keswick, we made a point of stopping off at this fabulous lake to take in the scenery and the tranquility.
It’s a fabulous lake surrounded by beauty, and it’s well worth a visit.

Tranquil
Sep 2021 • Family
This is one of the most tranquil and beautiful places l have experienced.
We parked at Dodd Wood opposite Mirehouse. Next to Mirehouse entrance is a public footpath which leads down to the lakeside and the delightful St Begas church, a small Norman church which is open to the public, fascinating…
We spent a sunny afternoon just taking in the peace and beauty of our surroundings. I am not surprised this lake inspired poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth!

Lovely but hard to access
Aug 2021 • Couples
Obviously a beautiful lake but it is difficult to access. We struggled between the private sections and the boggy sections. Would recommend a visit if you fancy the challenge of accessing it but would probably recommend one of the other bodies of water in this area!

Tranquil Lake

Called at Bassenthwaite whilst passing, very quiet and peaceful.
Beautiful views of the lake from the bottom end, great spot for a picnic or just relax.
Parked on the National Trust car park over the carriageway, not sure how much other parking were available.

Beautiful

Great place for views and wild swimming. Fantastic to take in the surroundings and the sunshine we had.
Only issue we had one someone without identification came to tell us the land to swim in and sit on I.e. the lake side was chargeable by £5 per couple. Said he was going to get ID then come back and charge us. He never returned. Think he was a cheeky chancer…if not then the landowner should be ashamed. It’s a rocky lake side by no means comfy seating/bathing for £5.
Otherwise a fab afternoon by a beautiful lake with stunning scenery!

Stunning

Another beautiful lake, larger and more open, but still lots of activities. Plenty of space and no fear of crowding really.

Hard to get down to and can't walk round it, however if you can get down and find a quite spot the views are lovely and the lake is very shallow for a way round the edge, perfect for paddling

This is one of the beautiful lakes that make the Lake District such a nice place to visit. Lots of photo opportunities and a fabulous selection of trees.

picturesque lake
Oct 2020
We visited the lake shore near Dubwath where there is limited visibility due to the proliferation of tress and bushes alon the shoreline. You can see people swimming in the lake and get limited views of the mountains. A better spot was along the A66 at the Bassenthwaite nature reserve
