Great to get rowed over and see this peaceful and impressive place. Hard to quite put into words but worth a visit . . . .

Carved into the hillside is a small but impressive chapel. Even if it weren't here, the short boat trip and wonderful stroll through the woods would be worth the visit.

Always fascinating to visit this unique and magical hermitage, plus a nice boat trip across the beautiful river!

Went to the Hermitage as part of a visit to Warkworth Castle. It is reached by a pleasant 15 minute walk along the River Coquet. You reach the Hermitage by crossing the river on a small rowing boat, overseen at all times by a member...More

Despite many trips to the area, we somehow missed a visit here. But what an interesting site. It doesn't like long to view. Access by a short rowing boat trip. Check times though as it doesn't appear to be open every day.

Half a mile walk from the castle some of it muddy. When you get there you have to cross the river by boat. It is well worth the visit. One of the most obscure places i have been to. Will go again and have recommended...More

Hidden away along the river is an ancient hermitage. English Heritage staff ferry you across the river and back into time. The small chapel tucked away in the cave is truly a treasure.

We weren't really sure what to expect but so glad that we did. There's a short rowing boat trip across the river by a very knowledgeable, passionate local who obviously loves what he does. After reaching the other side there is a very short walk...More

Never been here before, not least because of the tricky visiting hours. Picturesque and fascinating. If you only have time to visit one, choose the Hermitage over the castle. A must-see.
