About Pelorus Mail Boat
The Pelorus Mail Boat has been operating for more than a century. As a sea postie for a day, you’ll cruise through the largest, quietest and most remote part of the Marlborough Sounds – Pelorus Sound/Te Hoiere and Kenepuru Sound, and experience what we reckon is the best job in the world. Between deliveries and pick-ups of mail, parcels and supplies, relax on our spacious catamaran and marvel at the stunning scenery of clear blue water in tranquil coves and bush-clad hillsides. Meet some of the residents who await the Pelorus Mail Boat on far-flung jetties, unspoilt beaches or who meet us on their boats. A highlight for many of our passengers is the variety of four-footed furry residents who accompany their owners when we arrive. Our friendly, fun local crew will provide informative and entertainment commentary about life in this isolated part of the Marlborough Sounds.

Lovely trip through the Pelorous sound. Both skippers were friendly and knowledgeable. Only real negative was spot picked for lunch - should warn everyone to bring bug repellent as sandflies are abundant on shore, and eating next to a very smelly woolshed a bit of a turn off.

Hi rowanw373, thank you for your great review. We're pleased you enjoyed the cruise through beautiful Pelorus Sound/Te Hoiere and enjoyed the crew commentary. Thank you for your comment about the lunch location by the woolshed - we have taken this on board. The sandflies are occasionally more annoying so it is indeed a good tip to bring insect repellent, along with sunscreen and warm clothing. Thank you for pointing this out!

Brilliant journey with great informative narrative (with dry humour) from James and lively support from Nicole. A full day out with a beach stop for lunch. Stunning views, dolphins, sting rays and all sorts of people and four-legged friends meeting the boat at obscure but beautiful jetties. Absolutely a great day out with friends!

An amazing day out! We loved being out on the water all day with nothing to do except enjoy the sights and Sounds :) The commentary from the driver was funny and informative. We saw dolphins, sting rays, kini kuni pigs, seals, gannets, shearwaters, shags, terns. The boat was comfortable and the ride smooth (well, the sea was calm!) Local farmers and hoteliers joined in the effort to entertain the tourists by parading their pet pigs on their wharfs. Excellent value for money.

Joined the mail boat last Monday. Most enjoyable day. Very informative and friendly staff. This trip was worth while especially since the road closures in the area.

Hi janice and Gary, thank you so much for your great review, we appreciate it. It's great to see you enjoyed your cruise with us, and received warm hospitality. It is, as you say, a good way to see the beautiful Sounds while some of our roads are under repair (not to mention the great views you get from the water). We hope you'll be back to see us again soon.

Fantastic day cruise to the outer Sounds. The staff were great, full of anecdotes and stories of the Sounds as well as a great source of local information. Boat clean and comfy, toilets great, free tea and coffee and a spectacular remote bay stop for lunch such a great. The weather was great too, thank you to the Pelorus Mail Boat crew
