Many visitors to Madaba come for this delicate mosaic map. Even for those with little interest or knowledge in biblical stories, the colourful, centuries-old map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land is impressive. Come at around noontime to avoid the tour groups.

The mosaic map at St. Georges is a truly wonderful relic of Byzantine times. Constructed in the sixth century it was a valuable aid to the ancients understanding of the world. Well worth a look, better still if you have a guide.
