As a work of art it is unique and astounding but as an historical document it is priceless. Trying to put the names of the map into their current perspective is a fascinating exercise. Busy site so try to get in early but well worthwhile...More

Many visitors to Madaba come for this delicate mosaic map. Even for those with little interest or knowledge in biblical stories, the colourful, centuries-old map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land is impressive. Come at around noontime to avoid the tour groups.

A quiet oasis within the precincts of the church. The Medaba Map does not disappoint, and is well cared for, thankfully. There is a good shop in which are some excellent books. This floor is world famous and it was a privilege to see it.

Located inside a church, early Christian mosaics on the ground, excavated and well preserved, not too big though. Tickets required.

The mosaic map at St. Georges is a truly wonderful relic of Byzantine times. Constructed in the sixth century it was a valuable aid to the ancients understanding of the world. Well worth a look, better still if you have a guide.
