Although the outside and the auditorium are covered/ closed for renovation. The rooms we did see were both beautiful and interesting to explore. The guide provides good information. To me, the bonus were the free three arias at the end of the tour. It brought...More

We happened to see that tours were available between 10-18 daily. We had an excellent guide who showed us many beautiful rooms and told us lovely anecdotes about the Opera House. At the end of the 35 minute tour, there was a concert on the...More

From the very beginning, we decided that we would not take a tour of the theater due the reconstruction of the main auditorium. Walking along Andrassy boulevard we went inside to admire the interior of the hall and the grand staircase. And it was enough...More

While access to the interior of the Opera House isn't possible given the renovation, what is accessible shows the grandeur that hints at the beauty inside. I can only imagine the acoustics once its complete.

Very neat old (1800's) Opera house. So many stories within. Great acoustics! We were lucky enough to have a short aria sung in the entryways.

Without knowing that it is under renovation, we bought tickets for a ballet presentation online. Nowhere on the homepage, the booking or the printed tickets does it say that the function will NOT take place in the opera. We arrived 18:30 to a 19:00 show...More

The auditorium itself is not reopening until the 2019 opera season. The tour covers some adjacent rooms and stairways; somewhat interesting but not really worth the time. The highlight is a short 10-minute or so performance on a stairway landing by a couple of opera...More

The exterior is currently under renovation and so much was covered. However, the interior is simply spectacular - one of the world’s great opera houses. We were fortunate to see the ballet “Giselle” several years ago - quite an experience.

As per the previous answers, it appears to be the case that you can purchase tickets online. We didn't and it wasn't crowded at all. You see the entire Opera House except the concert hall, which is being renovated. However... More
