- IcayEUpper Hutt, New Zealand3 contributionsWinery tour remarkable experience. The tour given by Brad was very informative. Starting from the vineyard history, grapes planting, fermentation processes until its storage. We are able to differentiate the taste of the wine at the end. Overall it was a remarkable experience.Visited April 2023Traveled with familyWritten April 14, 2023
- Joel KVancouver, Canada3,577 contributionsOutstanding wine docent at Gibbston Valley WineryWe went in for a tasting of five wines. Larry the manager who was extremely knowledgeable of the wines and viniculture. We had a sparkling, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, and 3 different Pinot Noir wines from 3 different locations of land in the Gibbston Valley. Fabulous wines, tough decision.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 24, 2023
- Lucy MAustralia8 contributionsDelightful dining experienceMy husband and I each enjoyed an entree, main and glass of wine for lunch today. It was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we have had. The food was amazing - do yourself a favour and have the lamb! Staff were attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. We would highly recommend this for a special lunch, and will be back again!Visited August 2023Written August 7, 2023
- Courtney_R01Tauranga, New Zealand3 contributionsGold Star!We had a fantastic visit to Gibbston Valley Winery. We did wine tasting and ordered a cheese board. Staff were very knowledgeable and accommodating. We sat outside in the beautiful gardens, rugged up in blankets. Gorgeous setting, delicious wines and reasonably priced by NZ standards! I would highly recommend.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 25, 2023
- Debs BSydney, Australia20 contributionsWonderful in every way!We held our intimate wedding reception dinner in the wine cave and it was just wonderful. Amy and the events team really went above and beyond to make the evening so special for us. All our guests commented on how delicious the food was and of course the wine was exceptional! We also stayed at the Gibbston Valley Lodge and Spa over our wedding period. The villa was beautiful with a lovely outlook onto the vineyard. The lodge staff were all so friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary wine tasting as well. Would highly recommend visiting and staying at Gibbston Valley. We can’t wait to come back again! Thank you Gibbston Valley for everything xVisited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 27, 2023
- simonfC6580KI28 contributionsA must for lunchThis is such a lovely spot with a great vista. We came for lunch and some wine. The setting was beautiful and the staff where so awesome. The food was fantastic and was certainly up there with the best I have had, the sauces that complemented the lamb was just perfect. Highly recommend but make sure you book as it gets booked up in weekendsVisited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 2, 2023
- Bala vasan87 contributionsAmazing foodGreat views awesome food even though the serve was small. The server Jolie is awesome however initially the server we got was outright rude. The table she gave us was in the Sun n when we told her it is hot she was not at all a person who would be there to find a solution and simply walked away . Found her to be extremely rude and not at all as someone who should be in the service industry. We understand that we did not have reservation for a table however even after we finished our meal half of the area was still empty including the table that we had asked for . Glad that we stayed back since we weee very hungry and Jolie was excellent stafff and the food was great.Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten January 10, 2024
- John K1 contributionNice winery. Room for improvement for non-alcoholic drinkersLovely little winery. We indicated on our booking that one of us was non-alcoholic, and to have an alternative non-alcoholic drink option ready. On arrival no one was aware or prepared. We have noticed New Zealand wineries do not take into account non-drinkers which is a missed opportunity. Luckily the issue was solved by providing a locally produced orange juice instead.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 14, 2024

Honestly I was underwhelmed. The wines tasted in the cave were not nearly as good as those available for tasting at the main cellar/restaurant. The experience was short and felt a little rushed. It was on par with the price we paid though.

I took a friend who's visiting from overseas here. When we arrived we waited at the door trying to figure out if we could do lunch at the restaurant or wine tasting first, stood there for a good 5 mins without anyone coming to see if we needed help even though plenty of staff walked by several times. Finally someone asked and suggested we eat first, so we shuffled over to the restaurant, again, same experience, staff walked by told us they'll be with us several times before we were seated. It was a bit busy so that was understandable, but the attitude from most staff who spoke to us had a bit of a "I don't wanna be here" attitude, although our server, Grace was pleasant and welcoming, and that was the only highlight.
The wine tasting part went a bit of a similar pattern, waited a while even though it was quiet, staff were just trying to get on with their cleaning and paperwork and what not. They eventually brought out the tasting panel of wines, no intro, just told us to scan the qr code for tasting notes. Why do we bother to actually visit the vineyard if that's the experience we get? I'd definitely be giving this a miss in the future.

Excellent tour with Brooke. She was very informative about the process of making the wine and we loved the wine tasting in the cave.
We had a great time and included transport from Queenstown, which worked very well.

I will not return to Gibbston Valley with a group. We were 5 minutes late with a group and they had scheduled us for 30 minutes for a tasting in the cave, and they said we were too late because there was another group right behind us. Who schedules cave tours and tasting s for just 30 minutes (for a group of 19)?? But it was the eye-rolling server who really put me off. I know it’s the height of tourist season but…we’re the reason you have a job! Be respectful or we can go elsewhere.

Tasting was too fast (something like 3 minutes max per glass) without the classic see-smell-taste way but good explanation of the functioning of the property

We did the cheese and wine tour with Zach and had a great time. Both the cheeses and wines were delicious and the pairings were excellently chosen, I’d certainly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Wonderful experience. Our guide, Lucy, was so knowledgeable and clearly loved her job and all things wine. She was so gracious in our questions and made the whole experience a joy. We bought several bottles of wine and she even gave us fabulous recommendations for dinner since the restaurant had already closed.
The vineyard was beautiful and the wine cave so interesting. We tried 4 wines in the cave. Amazing experience. I can’t believe it was so inexpensive.

Am planning to visit in end July for the tour, lunch & transport option.
- Can I find out if I'm to choose the 2pm slot, does the transport depart Queenstown at 2pm and what time will I arrive back at Queenstown?
- Will it be lunch before the tour?
Thanks!

We're planning to visit this place in January or in February. I wonder if we have to book the tour now or it's okay to book a couple of weeks before.
