Getting to the start of the trail was a bit of a mission because I didn’t have a car but mainly because of all the trail closures that I wasn’t aware of despite researching my route extensively. The Rimutaka rail trail is managed by DOC...More

A great walk and brilliant cycle trail. No need for a paid tour, there are plenty of info points along the way. Lovely scenery and easy walking (it is along a railway trail of course).

Great place for a trail event loved the rolling hills and clean fresh air. Lots to do in that area but I only ran that day. Did that race 25 years ago so was amazing to come back

Rimutaka Trail is very scenic and quite easy for everyone to do. The track will take about 1.5 hours to complete and you will really enjoy it, specially on a sunny day. You still go further inside after the tunnel, but it's muddy and not...More

The Rimutaka Crossing is the route where New Zealand soldiers marched to join their colleagues for the First World war. There is a lay-by where a monument stands, with information, of the walk. There is also a circular walk over the headland to a view...More
