I ordered a decorative plate from them online (well, via telephone) and it's gorgeous. I got to select the colours and the design. They created and shipped it within good time. I'm very happy and grateful and I wish them all the best

I've visited this pottery twice now and enjoyed both times tremendously. This year was special though. My dog passed away just a week before I went on holiday to Sao Miguel. My father asked the people at Ceramica if they could make a custom plate from a picture of my dog during the week of our holiday. They damn well pulled it off. In just a few days I got my custom plate. A perfect rendition of my beloved pet, made in record time. I cannot thank them enough for the amazing work they did.

really enjoyed this visit. only 30-40 minutes was needed, and a great way to spend time during one of the frequent drizzles/rains that pass by. here are friendly folks busy at their craft.

We went to look at buying tile for a kitchen backsplash. The tile they produce here is lovely, just what we were looking for. But, the prices for the tile were quite high - 6 Euros per 6x6 tile. The rest of the shop had lots of nice, traditional Azores style pottery at very reasonable prices. No one offered to help us - they were having their own conversation and pretended we weren't there, essentially. We quickly walked through the factory - there is no guided tour - and left without buying anything.
They say they are the only pottery factory in the Azores... but, we remembered from our last visit that there was another pottery place in Ribeira Grande.
So, we took a quick trip up to Ribeira Grande and found the spot. There's a big shop, with friendly, helpful service. The tile there was very nice, and perfect for what we wanted. And, it was much less expensive - 1.5 Euros for each 6x6 tile. We also bought a couple of small cups and saucers for espresso for 6 Euros total.
The women in the shop took care to pack up the pottery we bought carefully so we could pack in in our suitcase to go home. A much better experience than this place. I recommend you go to Rebeira Grande for the service, even though I admit that the pottery itself here is very nice, and would be worth buying, despite the bad service.

So authentic. We watched 2 sisters working on projects. They spoke with us and told us about their family and their lives there. They showed us other pieces that they had recently completed. The pottery was beautiful and we felt that we met the actual artists. Other than the pottery shop, it was difficult to find authentic items to bring home with us. Now I have a beautiful platter that I use every day and remember the experience when I use it.
Also - I had 3 teens with me who were engaged in it all. They had taken up pottery in school and watching these women work held their attention since they had an appreciation for just how hard a craft it is.

In the town of Lagoa on the south coast is the ceramics factory Cerâmica Vieira, family-owned since 1862. Here you can experience how women still learn and paint it today. Definitely worth taking the walking tour through the facility as it is really interesting to see how they make the ceramics, and the ladies there are a joy. And of course there is a little shop where you can buy the artfully painted blue and white bowls, plates, cups, … and of course azulejos. The Pottery industry is one of the oldest of Sao Miguel, in the end of the 15th century the Azoreans already used pottery produced in the islands, with Moorish and Spanish influences, as the methods and forms used in the production of these pieces were very similar to the ones used in the Potteries of Valencia, Paderna and Menisses.

this historic factory has been producing tiles and vessels for over a century.it's a self guided tour, that allows you to get behind the scenes and see how these items are crafted.this place is an obvious choice for island crafted souvenirs.

This studio has been in the family since 1862 and our tour group saw the artists making the pottery and painting the ceramic tiles. Probably more interesting to someone who wanted to purchase the work.

Our tour guide took us to this factory in Lagoa, where we got to go through the entire factory and watch the artists at work as they created their works. They have been there for several generations, and they still do things the old-fashioned way. Clay spinning wheels were in action, and the pottery "throwers" who had been producing these pieces of pottery for decades explained their work to us in detail. The tour also offered the chance to purchase pottery inside the factory tour, which we did. This is a fun activity for the entire family, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

We visited in September 2019 and loved our tour. To see the hand-made ceramic process in person truly made me appreciate this art. Highly recommend a visit!
