We climbed up and had spectacular views of both Spain and Portugal. It was definitely worth the climb and was not at all crowded in October. This is a well-preserved castle that is an important part of Portugal’s history.
We enjoyed visiting Marvao and it's castle. The walk up the hill is steep. The reward is the views of the surrounding country. While the castle looks like many of the others we visited it is worth the trip for the view.
Try to make your visit here at sunset or early in the morning. Our visit was uncrowded and the views from the walls beautiful. Walls are steep and you could take a horrible fall easily from them so this is not a place to visit...More
Visited at sunset and sunrise for some lovely photos (on my wife’s phone :-). The views are stunning and if you turn up at 7pm or 7am you can still access all the great bits including the cistern, but there’s no one there to take...More

We climbed all over the castle, enjoying the vista and clouds as a rain storm began in the distance. The strangest thing was the earwigs that had tried to attack the castle and had experienced heavy losses :)
