Very nice historic ruin in a lovely park setting. Definitely worth checking this out if in the area.

Full of history and fabulous foliage. The gardens were beautiful and the abbey ruins as well as the St Leonards hospital ruins and the Roman tower within the museum gardens made for beautiful photo ops. Don't forget to visit St Olave's 15th century church as...More

The remaining walls of this Abbey inspire your imagination to walk back in time. Definitely worth a brief stop.

Beautiful grounds and evocative setting. Lots of little hidden historical gems. We did not visit the inside of the museum but impressive from the outside.

This is a little gem tucked away in the Memorial Gardens. Very disappointingly whilst there is an information board, it gives very very little information about the history of St Mary's. Access to the graveyard would have been good.

We first found this place when York 4 years ago, we stumbles upon it whilst walking the walls and simply enjoyed the gardens and ruins. Really pretty and easy to find.

The ruins of St Mary's Abbey stand at one end of the Museum Gardens. They make for a rather wistful reminder of the pre-reformation era and their Gothic arches hark back to centuries ago. It's a lovely spot, and usually the quieter part of the...More

These ruins are amazing. Besides the remaining wall, there are parts of the abbey still sticking up all through the gardens, and even underneath the nearby Yorkshire Museum (which is worth every penny itself, with the history of Yorkshire well exhibited). Just wander about and...More
