quaint and also quiet part of the mere, easy walking to many restaurants/cafes. lovely walks start here. plus its ideal. and then get a meal or drink outside at the wateredge Inn. Bliss but keep hold of the cheque book - its pricey

We were boarded for the sightseeing trip quickly and efficiently and enjoyed a nice, low-key look at the Lake District. Very pleasant with refreshments and snacks available on-board.

About 15 mins walk from centre of Ambleside, this has a couple of hotels, the YHA, places to feed the ducks and rent boats and also a stop for the Windermere cruises. Decent pub right on waters edge but it can get very busy. Parking...More

This is where you catch a ferry to several interesting spots around the lake, take a terrific 4.5 mile lake hike on the other side ( don't miss the delightful cafe by the National Trust at the end for scones and tea) and see Ambleside...More

Lovely walks along the banks of Windermere. Would definitely recommend for the views and potential food / hotel outlets along the lake's shore

Waterhead is a lot quieter than Bowness, but well worth a visit. Its the stopping off point for the Steamers and only a short walk along the road to Ambleside. A couple of hotels and restaurants right on the waters edge, with perfect views across...More

This is the only public car park at this end of the town. It has ANPR to prevent drivers parking and not paying but when we arrived we found that none of the machines would accept coins. This isn't a problem normally however as you...More

The Pier is about a mile from Ambleside town, but if you are in the area, it is well worth the journey down even if you are not planning a cruise on the Lake. Very traditional in style, it is exactly how you would picture...More
