Monteverde day and night tours

We left Arenal in the morning driving to Monteverde. After Arenal we realized it is imperative to have a tour guide. You see so much more when you have someone pointing it out to you. Otherwise it is just a walk in the park and you do not see much. While I was driving my wife was looking in our travel book and came across Pasion Costa Rica. We contacted Marcos on WhatsApp and booked two tours with him. We met our guide, Felix Barrantes, at Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve for a two hour guided tour. It was fantastic. Then at 6 pm we followed him on his motorcycle to Refugio de Vida Silvestre for a two hour night tour. Felix was incredible. He is obviously a passionate, seasoned biologist and naturist. The price included both park entrance fees and over four hours of fantastic tours. We highly recommend this company. Do not go to these parks without a guide!

Wonderful Nature Walk Experience

What a special morning exploring Monteverde cloud forest with Marcos! His enthusiasm for nature and sharing his knowledge is infectious, and his expertise led us to find a beautiful quetzal swaying on a branch in the fog. He is completely bilingual and transitioned between Spanish and English with no problems. He was also wonderful with the small child in our group, taking time to point out things that would interest and engage a four-year-old. Our tour felt like taking a walk with an old friend -- Marcos was so personable and engaging that the time just flew by. I unreservedly recommend booking a tour with Marcos to explore this special place.

Excellent Option for Guided Nature Walks

We had a fabulous time touring the Monteverde Cloud Reserve with Marcos! He is a kind and knowledgeable guide, and did a great job of interacting with my 4 year old. A local of the area, he definitely knows his stuff and helped give us a much better experience than we could have ever had on our own. Communication and setting up the tour was also a breeze. I highly recommend using this company!

Cloud Forest and Night Tour Combo - A wonderful experience to remember

This was one of the best guided tours we went on in Costa Rica. Marcos is a very gifted guide. Not only does he seem to have a magical ability to spot the animals that appear invisible to us but he also has an in-depth knowledge of the local flora and fauna that he enthusiastically shares. For the day tour we went to Curi Cancha, where we saw many interesting birds (among which the quetzal) as well as local mammals. Afterwards, Marcos took us to a local soda (Sabortico) where he introduced us to delicious local dishes. Then we finished the day off with an enchanting evening tour. The booking process with Pasión was very smooth and professional.

Our highlight in Monteverde <3

We have done two hikes with Marcos during our time in Costa Rica and both tours were wonderful experiences. The second one, a day long tour to the San Gerardo Biological station was our absolute highlight during all our stay in Costa Rica. Marcos knows the rainforest like the back of his hand, birds are his big passion (and soon became ours), we saw tons of wildlife, waterfalls, fascinating plants. The hike was strenuous but manageable with the right equipment (proper shoes, a rainjacket etc..). We can not thank Marcos, Susu and their family enough for this amazing experience. If you visit Monteverde, do this tour! Thank you and we wish you all the best, Teresa & Romain

Two wonderful walks

From the first phone call to arrange a tour, right to the end of our second walk, dealing with Pasion Costa Rica was a wonderful and personalised experience. We travelled as a family of 8 (7 to 79 years old) and Marcos made it interesting and engaging for every single one of us. The company name sits very well with Marcos who is clearly passionate about what he does and makes this experience so very different to some of the other tours in the area. We would definitely book again when back in Monteverde.

Our Favorite Tour!

My husband booked us an afternoon tour with Pasion Costa Rica and it was our favorite tour of our whole trip! Even before we went on the tour they were very helpful with letting us change our reservation without any problems. Marcos, our private tour guide, picked us up right from our hotel. We told him what we were interested in seeing and where we had already been, and he decided to take us to Curi Cancha Reserve. On the way, he showed us all the must-see spots in town, told us about the history of Monteverde, and talked a little about Costa Rican culture. Once we got there we started seeing animals right from the get-go. Marcos had a running game with our 7-year-old betting on who would see the first agouti or to see who would spot the next animal. Marcos won every time but sometimes he helped her cheat telling her where to look. Most of what we saw were birds and I was amazed at not only his knowledge, but his ability to spot them. We were even lucky enough to see a quetzal in February! Marcos would set up his telescope at just the right height for our kids, and he helped us use it to get amazing pictures on our cell phones. The other highlight of the tour was the strangler fig tree we were able to easily fit our entire family inside of. My husband and I would have loved the tour no matter what, but what made it so great was the way Marco interacted with our kids and talked to them on their level. Our 2-year-old even wanted to walk and hold hands with Marcos instead of Mom and Dad. Of all the tours we did in Costa Rica this was everyone’s favorite. The guide really makes the whole experience and Marcos was able to customize the tour to keep it interesting for all of us. He loves what he does and it shows!

Cloud forest tour with Orlando

We booked online, paid via PayPal. Super easy, our tour guide, Orlando, was extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. Super engaging and really good with younger kids, asking questions etc. It was interesting to learn about things like the little mini forests in the sky and the strangler trees. We also were luck enough to see a family of coatis!! We did the morning tour and it was quite cool, so recommend a jacket.

Knowledgable and professional!
My mom and I did a private morning tour with Kevin in Curi Cancha National Park. Kevin had a great knowledge to what he does. Our morning was great as we saw many different kind of birds (toucan, quetzal etc) and even some mammals (a family of peccaries, agouti etc). We loved his humor and his passion for his job. We signed up again for his night tour, and managed to see a two toe sloth from far away was definitely the highlight of our night tour!

True passion!

Marcos is unique and if you get a chance to spend time with him in the forest you are very lucky.
To spot on animals like the Quetzal, Hummingbird or Tarantula that you would never get to see in Europe or Northern America is already a great experience, especially if accompanied with the according background information. But Marcos sees beyond and draws a picture where others see dots and he tells stories, real life stories. With him the forest becomes alive.
The day after the tour I saw Monteverde with different eyes as if the place had come closer to me.
What is passion? In the case of Marcos it shows as a deep-rooted love for creation, responsibility for the world as a whole and a great humor that makes life worth living.
Thank you for this eye- and heart-opening experience! Pura vida!
