    What to Expect
Sydney Taronga Zoo opened in 1916 and has since become a major force for animal care, research, and conservation. You can take the ferry from Circular Quay to the zoo, a scenic ride that gives you stunning waterside views of the harbor city. Don’t miss a ride on the Sky Safari cable car, which whisks you high above the zoo grounds, giving you a bird’s-eye view of zoo inhabitants like elephants and big apes. It also provides photo ops of Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Opera House.
Your Sydney Taronga Zoo ticket is valid for general admission to the zoo and the Sky Safari, the only cable car in Sydney. Once inside the zoo, proceed around ten themed areas where the animals live in surroundings similar to their natural habitats. Some of the featured themes focus on Wild Australia, the Great Southern Oceans and Wild Asia. During the daily keeper talks, you can witness in-depth presentations about specific animals such as Tasmanian devils, giraffes, lemurs, little penguins, and koalas.
Other optional activities such as animal encounters and guided tours can be booked at your own expense. Education Officers can offer you and your family a learning experience with live animals and plants in their natural environments, and develop an understanding of wildlife of all types.

Large zoo with wonderful wildlife and volunteers. Shoved us in a cable car with other people and wouldve been nice to have it to ourselves to see the view. Unfortunately got half way kids starving and so was I - I packed snacks but boy...More

Absolutely awful experience. The enclosures were a disgrace. Barren and small. The elephants looked listless and verging on descending into insanity. Apart from one or two staff, the rest looked completely uninterested. A lot of enclosures empty and the zoo was disjointed and uninspiring. Food...More

Somewhat disappointed with the number of animals we were able to see. Most memoriable were the elephants and tigers. Bird show was fun. We couldn't find the penguins, walked around and around but their area was empty. Maybe it was low season and because of...More

As part of the "Go City" pass, we chose Taronga Zoo, and the only thing we regret is not having more time to spend there! After journeying on yet another scenic, wonderful ferry ride, we had approximately 2.5 hours to explore the zoo before it...More

There are ferries going right up-to the zoo and from there you can take the zoo mini bus . It's easier than going by water taxis

It depends on what you want to see. We were primarily interested in the Australian animals. We spent about 1/2 a day. You could easily spend all day. General ticket gives you entry to the zoo. I don't know what other... More
