About
Art, Temples, Culture, Food
The tour introduces two very South Indian olden day suburbs Malleswaram & Sheshadripuram that is a part of today’s North Bangalore. Malleswaram evokes an image of ancient temples, street shopping, old world bungalows and modern apartments all standing comfortably next to each other.
The tour starts with an introduction to the area. Through a walk and a drive it covers the story of the area through a visit to an ancient temple, open markets & an old world bungalow.
From here, we drive to nearby Sheshadripuram to know about ancient quaint board games.

- Escape525171026410 contributionsAmazing and educational tourVidya was a great guide! She probably knows everything there is to know about the area - both historical and current developments. With her open-minded and friendly manner, she shares her knowledge with you, showing you the temples and other interesting buildings and streets, including a snack break. At the end, you feel like you've learnt a lot while chatting with a friend. Definitely recommended!Written July 9, 2024
- VARA19690 contributionsA Morning Walk with Ms. Vidya Nilakantan @ Bengaluru Lalbagh Botanical Garden a must thing to do when someone is in BGLWe had an exciting & wonderful morning walk at Lalbagh botanical Garden guided by Ms Vidya Nilakantan our heritage & nature guide based at Bangalore. Thank to my classmate Dr Prathima Radhakrishnan as she arranged this lovely morning walk. We were accompanied by our another classmate Ms Kumud Singh and we all have enjoyed this walk very much as Vidya could explain so nicely the historical and the background of this botanical Garden right from its early days to the present one. The knowledge she had was superb and we could partly pick up from her and were memerised with the information she gave about this Garden and other vital information about Bangalore and Karnataka. We highly recommend all the nature lovers to take up this lovely walk as you reach Bengaluru or you plan to be in Bengaluru next time. Wishing you all a wonderful times ahead regards Vara prasad a nature enthusiastic.Written June 23, 2024

- Tourist242791231040 contributionsA gem of an experienceWe were promptly greeted by Vidya Neel and were educated on Indian temple design, the various facets of Hinduism and the history of Bangalore. I particularly relish the experience of sipping a cup of filter coffee (piping hot) amongst the locals. My colleagues and I discussed various topics (philosophy, politics, progress in India, life) with Vidya and learnt more about the Indian psyche - delightful company. Highly recommend.Written April 26, 2024
- AnnyAusAmsterdam0 contributionsFun, interesting and full of knowledgeI did. the Pete Tour with Poornima and it was one of the best guided tours I have done in India. Poornima is full of knowledge, she create the walking tour such that it was informative but still fun and interactive. After having a lot of guides in India that spoke hard to understand English, sounded as if they read of a programme, and could not answer any questions, this walking tour was pure bliss! I would strongly recommend unhurried tours.Written March 15, 2024

- PaulaW20010 contributionsFascinating stroll through the old townOur guide Vidya made a stroll through the old town of Bengaluru fascinating. Interesting to hear the full history of the city right from the beginning. We strolled through the old market roads, visited temples and stopped for a great coffee and Dosas. On a tour of India , where we have had the pleasure of seeing many wonderful sights, this was something just a bit different and we both enjoyed it all the more for that.Written January 22, 2024
- Passenger219591794150 contributionsUnhurried history and craftSuper two-day trip with Poornima who certainly knows her stuff and has a seemingly encyclopaedic knowledge of the places we visited. The highlight for me was Srirangapatna and the chance to walk around the fort ruins and look out across the Cauvery river from where Wellington's troops had attacked Tipu Sultan's defences in 1799. That scene has barely changed in over 200 years and it was certainly untroubled by pasty European tourists like me when I was there. I would never have known to visit these sites, or even known they existed, had it not been for Poornima, and I am grateful to her for digging out these gems for me. During my time in Mysore we visited Chamundi Hills and I also purchased, on impulse, some beautiful parquetry from local craftsmen. My trip was tailor-made and it fitted like a glove. After a couple of weeks in India on business it was really nice to have an unhurried journey from Bangalore to Srirangapatna/Mysore which also took in a silk farm, silk auction and a factory where silk saris were crafted on machinery which looked as if dated to the mid-twentieth century (or earlier). A really great experience, and I can't wait to book onto another unhurried trip the next time I am in this part of India. Thank you Poornima!Written October 25, 2023
- alexandrebV9057YD0 contributionsBest moments in Bengalore and MysoreThanks to Vidyalakshmi and Usha for their kindness and patience, thanks to them I had a great time and learned a lot about Bangalore, Mysore and the history of these cities and the tasty meals eaten together. - Padmav410 contributionsThoroughly an enjoyable Unhurried Pete Walk, a walk that captures the charms and flavours of the city.We have been on Unhurried walks with Poornima twice, many years ago on "cubbon cantonment tales Walk" and last week on "Pete Walk". Highly recommend Unhurried walks. Poornima captures the charm of Bangalore so beautifully in these informative and interesting walks, making every walk unique and memorable for all ages. She goes an extra mile in making a personal connection with each of us, while keeping the walk lively with active conversation, she listens to our interests and shares a lot of additional anecdotes. Poornima is very knowledgeable, doesn't rush, it is truly an unhurried walk :) She goes in-depth to share every aspect, the city then and now - it's history, culture, local practices, shows rare and unseen photos, truly amazing to see how she remembers so many historic events, dates and names! One may be a tourist or a proud resident of Bangalore familiar with these places, but walking with Poornima gives a new dimension with her fascinating stories revealing all the local hidden gems. Our walk concluded with a delicious breakfast at an iconic eatery. Poornima was still energetic after 3 hours, continuing to share more stories and about the eatery also, loved listening to her and a special thanks for these prompt recommendations - benne dosa, dumroot and Badam Halwa. What better way than this to explore Bangalore and Karnataka! Already planning our next unhurried walk with her.Written August 2, 2022
- RPAllen0 contributionsThere are times to go on your own, and there are times you want a guide. This is the second!I am experienced traveler and consider myself "adventurous," but the combination of logistical challenges and language issues can make South Indian cities overwhelming. As much as I love exploring, doing the pete area on my own would have been intimidating. Poornima made it just fun and I saw things that I would never have seen on my own. She was also very adept at quickly leveraging my own particular interests--I mentioned Jainism and then, when we came across a Jain festival, she took me in the neighborhood Jain temple. You can't do better than this.Written March 5, 2020
