      Hiko-chan House
      Stop: 60 minutes
Hiko-chan House The Nishimura area, where the Maze Satoyama Museum is located, is an aging community with a population of about 150 people. Volunteers of middle-aged and older people who have retired from service use the thinned timber from the forest maintenance to create their own charcoal hut “Hiko-chan House”. It is a place where people can chat while drinking and exchange information on topics such as neighborhoods. Many of the facilities and tools here are handmade by local residents, such as charcoal grilling, as well as vegetables, potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, hearths for grilling delicious potatoes, kilns for cooking rice, mortars and bowls with mochi, and pizza kilns. It is a thing. Would you like to come and talk about it? It feels like a time slip in the Showa era.

      Yummy Gohei mochi
This experience was so good! You can have not only delicious Gohei mochi (you can try 2 kinds of flavours) but also a great experience with making it by yourself. There are many places you can have Gohei mochi around Gifu, but not so many places for making experience. Local people are nice and kind. They teach you how to make it. This place locates near Gero city. I definitely recommend you to come here when you visit near Gero city or Gifu.

      Fantastic tenkara fishing
I travelled to Japan from the USA for tenkara fishing. This was one of the locations I fished. The rivers and streams are breathtakingly beautiful and my guide Rocky was fantastic. They have English speaking staff and great hospitality. Planning a return trip in the very near future. John Vetterli Tenkara Guides LLC

      Fastest weekend in a while
Mizube no Yakata is awesome! Me and my friends tried rope way, canyoning, fishing, BBQ and also visited a free outdoor onsen during the weekend. If you haven't tried the rope way or canyoning, you should definitely try it! I felt like a 5 -year-old-kid again and couldn't stop laughing. Also the staff is professional and want to make your trip unforgettable. The only complain I have is that the weekend went too fast. Thank you Mizube no Yakata, it was great!

      Amazing experience!
Spent the weekend there with friends and did the tree parcours and the canyoneering. Both activities were super fun and unforgettable! We also had a BBQ at the hostel with some amazing scenery and quietness, except for the calming sounds of the river right nearby. Super friendly and helpful people working there, I won't forget this weekend anytime soon!

I recommend to people who want to experience Japan rural culture. There are many attractions here. Beautiful locations, river, hand made experience, and you can see some of rural life tools. It’s like a chopping wood, stone mill, hearth.Same Japanese but I felt fresh.I had some foods in the rocal space. Handmade foods ware so delicious! Especially “Tsukemono” was super!
The freshly made mochi was also delicious.
And local people were very kind. There was heart warming experience. I had an experience I couldn't taste in a city.

Dear Ayako I am glad to see that you have been very satisfied with the experience of Maze Satoyama Museum. You say that there are many attractive things, like the country scenery, homemade food, daily necessities. Most of all, the pickles”Tsukemono” made by local mothers are the best. I agree with you. It was the cold and windy day, but I was delighted with the warm welcome of the locals that blew away the cold. Thank you very much this time. I look forward to seeing you at the next opportunity.
