Itinerary
- 1Come and see one of Canada's most visited places! Your half day ashore starts with a popular excursion through Halifax, it is the biggest city east of Montreal and the capital of Nova Scotia. Halifax was founded in 1749 to protect British interests in North America. The area is steeped in maritime history and some of the great highlights you will see include the Grand Parade Square and the central square of the original town. Canada's oldest Anglican Church St. Paul's church, is located in the square. From here we visit West Dover, a small fishing community with a population of just 275 people offering a fascinating and remarkable setting. Then we head along the beautiful coastal road to Peggy's Cove. As soon as you arrive you will be enchanted by the lighthouse located on the edge of the ocean and the quaint fishing village, Peggy's Cove attracts thousands of visitors each year. Nestled on the rocky shoreline of St. Margaret's Bay, the area offers stunning, world-renowned scenery. During your tour here we get to view the Devonian Granite Rock Formations , these influenced they way the landscape around Peggy's Cove was created. Boulders that seem to grow out of the fields of moss and shrubs are a gigantic 350- to 415-million-year-old. They were scattered by retreating glaciers about 10,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age. Whilst we head back to Halifax, we enjoy a photo stop at the Halifax Citadel. This hilltop area allows guests a stunning panoramic view of the city and harbour, creating a great finish to your half day shore excursion.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 45JeffP0 contributionsHire a private tour!We were in Charlottetown for one day on a Princess Cruise. There were private drivers with minivans available in port at around $50US per hour. We did a private tour, skipped the crowds and big busses and saw lot of the city and countryside. Our driver, Alan, was a local, personable, and so very accommodating. Highly recommended!Written October 15, 2019

We booked a 4 hour tour "Best of Halifax and Peggy's cove:" through CruisesOnly. What a shi-ty tour. We drove down a tree lined highway for 1 1/2 hours ... nithuing ti see or photograph, while our 'tour guide' spoke minutiae about past unimportant families that lived in the area previously. Then we arrived at Peggy's cove. A deserted lighthouse, a gift shop (of course) and a small restaurant. That was it. We'd stayed an hour and then headed back down the tree-lined highway. Our 'tour guide' even failed to mention the beautiful carving in the rocks at Peggy's cove. See below.
So buyer beware ….

I have never visited a lighthouse before. I have only driven by them in Massachusetts. Peggy's Cove is a quaint fishing village filled with great scenery, the lighthouse and lobster rolls! It's a charming place to walk and practice your photographer's skills, hold hands with your loved one, and hike on to the beautiful coastal rocks of Nova Scotia. I sat down on the coastal rocks and was mesmerized by the beauty and the rhythmetic dance of the sea. Bring your own picnic lunch if you want, and find your inner peace. Experience a different way of life.
