Fabulous day with an exceptional guide.
The entire trip was great, - the animals at the Wildlife centre, the Aboriginal cultural talk, the crocs on the river, the magnificent gorge. Our guide, Lisa, was exceptional, making the whole day a truly memorable experience.

        Excellent day out
Very well organised trip up by Skyrail and bsack by Scenic Railway. Have 3-4 hours in Kuranda which is plenty unless you want to visit the Butterfuly House or go for a hike. The Skyrail is really great with magnificent views and gives great idea of how huge the rainforst is. The Rail trip is so very interesting the history involved in the creation of it. Was a reall great day out. The souvenir shops at both ends of trip were the best I had seen in Cairns.

Great Experience with lots of fun!!!!
We booked a Classic Kuranda Tour with Tropic Wings. The experience started with a lovely welcome from the Bus Driver! We took a train to go to Kuranda from Fresh water station which was absolutely beautiful experience with such a breathtaking view! I took my cousin from Japan to go on this tour and she absolutely loved everything about this tour. We had enough time to explore Kuranda market and the village. After that we went to the Rainforest Station and experienced Army duck tour, aboriginal dance show and the wildlife park. We took Skyrail back to Smithfield. The day was full of fun and good quality time! This tour is definitely worth the money and your time. If you are planning to go to Kuranda, I highly recommend to book with Tropic Wings as this tour includes everything in a package! Lunch & hotel transfers too✨ Thank you Tropic Wings for an amazing time in Kuranda!!

        Not quite as expected
The score on the review does not relate to the actual activities, which were fantastic and I would highly recommend. The Rainforestation Centre was great with the Aboriginal dancing, music playing, spear throwing and boomerang throwing, but in particular the WW2 Duck Vehicle trip was great! The Kuranda Skyrail was also great allowing for some really good pictures and views. The scenic train was good although better if you get a window seat. No comment on the village or butterfly sanctuary as due to some issues with the train (1 HR late) I couldn't see these. The main issue was I believe it oversold a tour with a guide. The reality was a bus to the train station, with a driver who offered some entertaining narrative and then you are own your own. The activities themselves are narrated but I kind of expected a tour guide who would give a bit of history about the place beyond the specific activities. Feel like I could have booked each bit individually and had exactly the same experience, which is not what I expect from a guided tour

Great mix of things + excellent customer service
The tour hits three great experiences. It packs wonderful activities into one day - the rainforest, the gorge and the river. Tropic wings tours does an excellent job with execution with their partners to get everything done in an efficient but not rushed manner. Customer service was amazing- especially morning of our tour when our GPS had us in the wrong location. Would book with them again in a heartbeat.

        Great day at Kuranda!
A lovely day spent at the Kuranda - starting with the bus ride up - soundless thanks to the electric bus, but with a chatty driver Adrian who gave us all the information we needed for the day trip. Had a lovely time feeding the kangaroos and seeing all the animals there. Then came the Army duck tour - with our extremely entertaining and funny guide - Mark - from Germany!! He did make us all comfortable about the fact that he is a German driving our WW2 army vehicle haha. Thanks for a marvellous time!

        Great day in Kuranda
Great trip. Stunning scenery and loved the railway. The onboard staff made sure everyone got good seats next to the windows for the best views. The waterfalls are amazing. The Butterfly sanctuary was magical and would recommend listening to one of their guided tours; really interesting. Rainforestation exceeded my expectations. Our guide on the army duck boat was very entertaining but also knowledgeable, pointing out lots including a red bellied black snake and huge golden orb spiders. Also particularly enjoyed the Pamagirri demonstration especially having a go at boomerang throwing. Cable car descent also very special. Great day and thanks to our drivers Steve and Ben who made the day very easy.

        An Absolute Highlight
This was a highlight of our holiday. Extraordinary train trip to Karunda in restored c1908 carriages with spectacular views along the way. Karunda very touristy but lots of fun. The return trip by cable car over the rain forest was the best experience. We were lucky that the Barron Falls were raging after all the rain and I believe better than Niagra Falls in Canada. To look down into the rain forrest was awe inspiring and a little humbling

DO NOT GO ON THIS TOUR
This was the worst tour I think I’ve ever been on. My partner and I have traveled a lot of the world, and have been in Australia for a month and this is still the worst tour we have been on. We are ubering back to our hotel half way into the day because it’s not worth finishing. We want our money back. To start, the train ride is slow and boring. I guess the waterfall was cool, but not worth the hour and a half train ride. That was probably the best part of the trip. After that, you’re left in Kuranda for about an hour and a half to see some really touristy shops and a butterfly sanctuary that has no interesting butterflies. We walked through the town, got some coffee, and sat their twiddling out thumbs. We asked if we could head to the rainforestation early but were told that it was either wait in town or wait there. We got to the rainforestation, where we were excited to go on the duck boat tour- sooo dumb!! You went around a short loop where they pointed out spiders, 2 dangerous plants, and a snake. Not at all worth it- we still want our money back. After that, was lunch. We’re vegan so we asked if there were vegan options. We are more than happy to bring our own lunches, we’ve done it on a few tours. We were told, though, that there were vegan options. They didn’t lie, there was watery rice and a watery, flavorless curry that barely had any veggies or anything in it. To all the non vegans- nothing else looked appealing either. After lunch, we had time before the indigenous dance so we decided to walk through the nature park. The animals are kept in small enclosures and they seem visibly depressed. After that, we didn’t think the rest of the day was worth it. We called an Uber and drove the 30 minutes back to Cairns. We want our money back, as we can’t be given our time back. Save yourself the money and time. Do not book this experience.

        Kuranda Train and Skyrail
This was a good day out, the train ride was a fun great experience, the history of the making of the train line and landmarks were explained well and given plenty of time for photo opportunities. The walk around idyllic Kuranda village was nice and relaxing, there was a good selection of food shops as well as a different variety of shops, including art, clothing and gift stores, definitely stop in at the village market situated amongst the trees as well try a round of mini golf. The ride back in the skyrail, was also worth the ride over the treetops giving a different perspective from above, great day out overall.

The best experience we had in Cairns
My wife and I used the skyrail both ways and what a great experience it was, we were picked up outside the night market on time. It only took us a few minutes and we were in the cable car and how amazing that was up and down and we were lucky as the baron falls was flowing with so much water. The town itself was OK for a few hours we did eat at one of the cafes that advertised Mahi Mahi fish and chips but when I received it, it was one of those frozen battered fillets like you get from the supermarket which was yuk. We got to the cable car to go back which was as much fun going up when we were back down I asked if we can get the earlier bus back to Cairns which they did do, The staff are brilliant all smiling and very professional I highly recommend this trip

        An AMAZING Experience!
Don't miss this experience! We took an airconditioned coach from Cairns 15 minutes north to Smithfield Platform where we boarded the skyrail that took us above the rainforest with the end goal of Kuranda. On the way, we stopped at 2 platforms for viewing, a short park ranger guided tour and an interactive station. Once in Kuranda we shopped, and refreshed with an ice cold drink before viewing the Koala's. Then we boarded the 1900's-built train for a stunningly beautiful return to Smithfield Platform.

The Duck Tour was a total waste of money. Just entered the water and went around a dam or man made lake once then out and back to base. Did stop to point out a bird that looked as if it had been strategically placed as the army duck behind us pointed out the same bird. It was a real sham.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry to hear that you had some disappointment in regards to the Army Duck tour. It was quite shocking to read this, as it is a favourite part to the unique experience of Rainforestation. We appreciate and noted your feedback as we do always aim towards excellence.

The Skyrail, Kuranda, Rainforestation was okay. I wish I could have spent more time at Barron falls along the Skyrail, but felt rushed to get to Kuranda, especially since I had also purchased a visit to the Australian Butterfly sanctuary in Kuranda. Our visit to Rainforestation nature park was great for the food. The buffet BBQ lunch was delicious! The nature park is somewhat small - a couple of kangaroos roam freely, there's also a mature crocodile and a few other young ones in enclosures. I would have liked to learn more about the Aboriginal culture on show, acknowledgement of country, etc.

Hi, thank for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed most parts of your day tour with Tropic Wings. We are sorry that you felt rushed for your Skyrail trip. The Barron Fall at the moment is indeed spectacular to watch and we understand that you would love to spend more time there. It is great to read that you enjoyed your lunch, wildlife and Pamagirri experience at Rainforestation Nature Park. Thank you for your feedback as we always strive to be better.

I did the Skytrain, Duck tour and Train down on 23 March and as it was pre season, the pick up arrangements were slightly different from the standard, but managed brilliantly, and communication with me was excellent.
Apart from the magnificent scenery, all the Tropical Wings staff were knowledgeable about the area and its eco systems, and helpful. I felt that I was in the hands of a professional company with committed loyal staff. Staff on the Skytrain also have these attributes.
I was slightly disappointed with the Duck Tour as I expected a more exciting trip across water rather than a journey down a rainforest track and then gentle waddle across a small lagoon. But that is my only mild disappointment in an otherwise amazing and memorable day. (The Kuranda day is such a memorable experience that I last did this pre Skytrain in 1988 and wanted to ensure I did it again - the Skytrain adds a whole new dimension to it!)

We did the KDLAB tour with the train ride to karanda, tour of the butterfly sanctuary, the Army duck tour with a buffet lunch, and finished with the skyrail back down the mountain.

It was a brilliant day and the drivers (Adrian and mark) were very informative and had excellent local knowledge.

Don’t miss out on a fantastic opportunity to tour your own back yard. Highly recommended and great value for money.

What a fun day. The tour guide for coach was friendly and welcoming. Transporting us to the sky rail terminal where we again, were met with a warm welcome at each stop. What a beautiful way to experience the amazing beauty of this part of Australia. Hop off at a few spots along the way to embrace nature before making in down into Kuranda village. Cute place. Lots of shops and places to eat and drink. We chose to do an army duck tour of the reforestation site which was also fun. We were then transported back to Kuranda for the train home. Again a beautiful trip but a window seat is a must. You are allocated a seat number so if you don't get one it's kind of too bad. Diesel fumes are strong on the train if you are sensitive to smell. Views are amazing though and plenty of time to see everything on the 90min trip down the mountain. Really enjoyable day.

We don't normally do day trips, but felt this would be an exception
We booked the train, DUKW tour and Sky Rail.
Picked up from the hotel by a friendly and helpful driver and transported to the Kuranda Railway station. Nice little cafe for breakfast. Allocated seats but after the first mile one of the onboard staff came and led us to an empty carriage with window seats. Spectacular views and informative commentary. Onboard staff were excellent.
There were options on arrival to visit the Butterfly Sanctuary and a BBQ with aboriginal dancing. We went to the pub and ate pies.
DUKW tour was educational. Once again great staff and commentary.
Sky Rail down once again provided spectacular views.
Ok, so we enjoyed it. There was a fair bit of hanging about. We went on an organised trip so kind of expected it. This was clearly designed to gain revenue. We knew that and frankly didn't care. There was no pressure to buy anything in the village. Loads of tourist type stuff. You could probably book everything yourself if you had transport, we just took the easier option.

The Railway was great. The skyrail was good, but remember you MUST stick to your exact time. The Duck Tour was an absolute waste. I would've preferred to stay in town 20 minutes longer rather than do the wasteful Duck Tour.

We were picked up at our B&B and taken to the train station where we rode the Scenic Railway with a stop at Barron Falls. Scenery all along the way was beautiful and once we arrived at Kuranda we spent some fascinating time at the Butterfly Sanctuary. We then went on the duck boat ride through the rainforest area. Following that we went to an aboriginal dance performance and then we were introduced to the traditional boomerang and each of us were given a chance to try throwing it after a lesson. We had the buffet lunch which was optional and very good. Following the performance we went to the Wildlife Area where we saw a nice collection of Australian creatures. The day ended with The Skyrail gondolas going back down the mountain to across from the railway station.
